Normally when I play a fantasy game I go straight classical magic type, this Druid class has me real curious though. I played through the opening ship tutorial real quick earlier with a Druid and it seemed fun, but I doubt that's a good gauge for how they'll be later.
You're all really helpful, thanks again.
Circle of Spores for a bit more melee focus and some necromancer-like abilities.
Sadly, I can't recommend Circle of the Moon because while you do get access to additional wildshapes, said wildshapes don't grow stronger or gain new abilities with level ups. So you're basically a martial fighter that doesn't get extra attacks, fighting styles, or any supplementary abilities like rage, meaning you'll fall behind on the power curve very quickly. Maybe it's better if you multiclass with barbarian.
I would absolutely play it as the one that can change forms. Forgot the name. Hell the first form u get is polarbear. I don't like druids, and even I'm excited to see what other forms they get.
We don't know that exactly. But I think a 1-3 level dip into Barbarian might be the way to go.
As far as I've seen, no.
You don't want to be MAD (Multiple Ability Dependent). You want to be SAD (Single Ability Dependent).
Also, you can't cast in wildshape?! I think this is true.
From the one moment I played as a different shape on that quick playthrough the tutorial I made, it didn't look like you could cast any spells in a different form.
I was just curious.
The MAD SAD stuff is over my head for the time being until I'm more familiar with the ruleset. I was thinking there probably wouldn't be any reason to multiclass with a different spellcasting class but wasn't sure. I don't know how a Cleric works but if it's like a Paladin-ish character, maybe that might be an interesting pairing for when outside of animal form.
All good information from everyone though. Getting my hype up for next week.
My only problem with the class is that 95% of their spells are Concentration.
You can only have one Concentration spell active at a time.
Therefore, my biggest advice is preparing only one Concentration spell per spell level or it'll feel like you are just a Cantrip caster after the first turn.
Everything else should be non-concentration like Healing Word, Ice Knife, Thunderwave, Plant Growth etc. Also, Druids in BG3 early access can wear metal armor and use metal weapons unlike tabletop - opening up more tanky melee options (though I don't know if this will change.) And the Moon Druid can Wild Shape as a very buff bonus action. This melee versatility is nice once your spells run out or become ineffective.
Honestly, Moon Druids were probably the biggest disappointment for me in EA.
The last wildshape form you'd be able to get is at lvl10. So a two level dip wouldn't be bad.
If going caster I'd probably dip into a few levels with cleric at some point. Really great support potential there.
Personally, I really liked going moon for wildshape.
(pst, barkskin is your friend)
I don't know if I missed it or it wasn't mentioned, but this makes transforming a bonus action, which is actually really awesome. Turn into the animal AND use their ability on the same turn. Suddenly I'm a spider aaaand now there's webs on all the enemies.
Be a shame if someone used a fire cantrip right after my turn...
Just a whole lot of utility from wildshape.
Aw man if only we could fly up to - oh wait, druid!
If only we could lay a big trap before pulling that giant group of - oh wait, druid!
Oh no, if only we could tunnel under to - oh wait, druid!
Aw geez, I wish we had another tank right now - oh wait, druid!
and of course you get to gossip with all of the animals
Just on an on. Druid is a swiss army knife. Looking forward to seeing what owlbear form can do when the game releases.
