Creating your own character is it your own storyline?
They have preset characters with their own background stories correct?

how does it work for a users created character will it be a story unique to you will you miss out on certain party reactions?

We don't know for sure, but the previous game from this studio used a system where you picked a few "Tags" that defined your character's background (Soldier, Scholar, Mystic and so on) that offered occasional dialog options. I'm expecting something similar here, and maybe the option to pick a god your character follows.
We'll find out for sure in a few days.

That's your "background" in 5e and you get inspiration (chance to reroll) for acting in accordance of your background.

This is likely the extent of your character's backstory, if I were to guess.

It`s like you are almost like ''alien '' to this world. Nobody knows you and you don`t know anyone. So in that`s sense it`s mysterious journey for you.

Origin characters have there own agenda, so to speak , a story that you can conclude parallel to main story.

There always the who you dream of (or guardian in full release)

I highly doubt the Origin characters will get one (they dream of something else)

So a custom character might be affiliated with someone we don't know about yet

As someone who has played through early access a couple times i can confirm this. Your selected background will come with a couple of tags which will make you proficient in certain aspects, such as performance, religion, intimidation and way more. On top of that the race and even sub-race you choose will also provide exclusive dialogue options. Classes have the same function, if you were to play a cleric you can also select the deity you worship and get unique dialogue options for that.

Yeah, I keep forgetting about the origin selection, but I have a sneaking suspicion that won't be the full extent of it. There''s several points in the EA where the dialog gives you the option to mention being from Baldur's Gate, and the [Baldurian] that shows up at the start of those dialog options looks exactly like the DOS2 tag dialog options. So i'm guessing you can at least specify where your character is from (assuming that doesn't get cut in the full release)

Might be, as they changed some things.

Previously all dreamed about corruption and power.
