Sometimes the game journulists are just dumb. always. all of them
Though technically renaissance firearms exists in DMG (dungeon master's guide) they are very setting dependent.
Thing is..Gunslinger stuff is based off Pathfinder 1 and the firearms in gunslinger for 5e may look cool but you're better off sticking to the renaissance musket and pistol.
This might just be my way of saying I'm not a huge fan of the look of the automatons though, but that's only from the trailers and stuff, I'm sure I'll warm up to them once I know the story behind them in the actual game itself!
edit - also just for the record this isn't me advocating for gun classes! I'm just saying I wouldn't find them too out there on a surface level when I see those kinds of things in the city.
It just doesn't seem like the sort of setting with anything more than flintlocks etc.
They could also be a form of golem powered by magic.
It almost feels like a joke ariticle that they published online, but it's entirely WoTC's fault with introducing things like laser pistols, antimaterial rifles, and other things like that. (Dungeon Master's Hand Book, 5e, page 268). They tried to add flavor, but now we're getting ideas like those from the journalist.
Game is still quite medieval fantasy, I know some major cities have gnomish industrialisation a fair bit. But it's still mainly medieval if I remember.
No idea if guns would even be introduced, they require their own proficiency and their stats are fine damage wise but their range is quite low. Bows and crossbows still reign supreme when you have poison to add.
The gunslinger is more akin to warhammer fantasy of firearms but some stuff that really might lean towards cowboy-style. It sticks out like a bloody sore thumb depending on setting. The reason it exists in Pathfinder is being a very mixed setting of high fantasy and a lot of sci-fi stuff.
Though instead of finding guns you can make them through your class ability
Eh, I think Spelljammer kinda worked around it. Having people cruising from other spheres and such.
Then there's also this:

Perhaps they are going back on it these days, I dunno. Not up to date with my D&D knowledge.
