Full Release and DLC Questions
Q. What were the main differences between Early Access and Full Release?
A. Early Access ran from 6 October 2020 to 3 August 2023. It had limited support, content and players could only play through the starting area and about 2/3 of Act I. The full version was released on 3 August 2023 and contained the full content of the game.

Q. What systems are can I play BG3?
A. BG3 is available on PC and Mac (through Steam and GOG), PS5, and Xbox X|S.

Q. Are my past Early Access saved games compatible with the full release?
A. No. The Full Release version had too many changes, added content, and updated game files for Early Access saves to work.

Q. Is it true that Early Access players got a free upgrade to Digital Deluxe?
A. Yes. On 23 February, 2023 Larian Studios released a Tweet that Early Access game owners would get a free upgrade to the Digital Deluxe Edition on launch day.

Q. Can I still get Digital Deluxe?
A. If you purchased Early Access, you automatically received the upgrade at no extra cost. For those that did not purchase Early Access, they can still purchase the Digital Deluxe version in the GOG, Steam, PS5, and Larian.club Xbox stores.

Q. What comes with the Digital Deluxe version?
A. "The Digital Deluxe Edition includes all the content from the standard edition, along with additional exclusive items. These items include the Divinity Bard Song Pack, Exclusive Dice Skin, Mask of the Shapeshifter, Cape of the Red Prince, Lute of the Merryweather Bard, Needle of the Outlaw Rogue, Bicorne of the Sea Beast, Paintings from Rivellon, Adventurer's Pouch, Digital OST (Original Soundtrack), Digital Artbook, and Digital Character Sheets."

Q. My Digital Deluxe DLC content is not showing. How do I fix this?
A. This has been an issue with Steam on other games. Clear your Steam Cache and restart Steam. It should show up after that.

Q. How does the combat work? Is it Turn-Based or Play-with-Pause?
A. The game is turn-based where the characters have actions, reactions, etc. It is NOT "Play with Pause" combat. DnD is a table-top game where players and the Dungeon Master take turns, and the game play in BG3 reflects that. If you have played DOS 1 & 2, you'll be familiar with this.

Q. What is the maximum level (without mods?)
A. Currently, the maximum level is 12.

Q. How do I play Co-Op with others?
A. You can play with friends and others by selecting the "Multiplayer" from the Main Menu. You can then create a lobby and choose to allow randoms or Friends only. NOTE: BG3 is "Cross Save" but NOT "Cross Play" with PC and Console platforms. You can play co-op between PC and Mac through Steam and GOG but you cannot team up with friends on PS5 from your PC. From what I understand, that's on Sony's end not LS's fault.
NOTE: To play "couch co-op" on PC, you need both controllers plugged in.

Q. How does Co-Op work?
A. You and up 3 others (4 total) can battle against mobs or run around independently. The game is also split screen when playing on the same device (aka TV). Also, the group's session is only saved on the host's computer so you can only continue that session when they're available!

Q. Why isn't my game saving or not letting me load a saved game?
A. These are reported methods that have helped players resolve this problem:
1. Check that your system's security settings/firewall are not blocking the game.
2. Open the opposite API that you have been using (ie Use Vulkan if you used DX11, or relaunch with DX11 if you've been using Vulkan) and create a new save.
3. Deleting the Larian Studios folder found in AppData > Local > Larian Studios and relaunching the game.

Q. Why does my game crash on launch?
A. There are several solutions to this:
1. Ensure your drivers are up to date (especially the graphics).
2. Verify game files.
3. If you have mods, ensure they are up-to-date and installed correctly.
4. Bypass the launcher with "--skip-launcher" command in the game's properties, or launch bg3.exe directly

Q. Which Graphics API does BG3 support?
A. BG3 supports Vulkan (which Larian recommends) and DirectX 11. That said, I have seen responses that DX12 also works (which it should, since DX11 is included).

Q. Can I use a controller?
A. Yes. At this time, Steam Input seems to be causing issues with controllers so it is advised you disable "Steam Input" if your controller is no working.

Q. Is BG3 playble on Steam Deck?
A. Yes, but it isn't fully optimized for it at this time. Larian Studios is still working on getting it verified.

Q. Is Baldur's Gate 3 really a "Baldur's Gate" game?
A. Baldur's Gate 3 takes place in the Forgotten Realms (part of the Dungeons and Dragons universe) and about 120 years after BG2. Some of the classic characters are in the game. However, it is it's own story and you do not need to play BG 1 and BG 2 to understand Baldur’s Gate 3's plot.

Q. Which edition of "Dungeons and Dragons" is BG3 based on?
A. It is a homebrew version of DnD 5e. That means it's based on the 5th edition rules with some "house rules" and other adjustments by the game company.

Here are some suggestions for other questions and answers I see a lot:

Q- Controller support?
A- Full controller support on release, Aug 3rd, no controller support until then.

Q- Do I lose out on story if I don't play an Origin Character?
A- No, you still get to experience the other characters' stories just not from their perspectives. The only Origin character who you can't get as a companion is The Dark Urge.

Q- Bear feet pics?
A- No-one knows yet.

It kind of sucks that the Dark Urge isn't a companion you can get, maybe they'll add it at a later date. I think it would be hilarious if there was a cutscene where Astarion goes to suck your blood and the Dark Urge joins in starts chomping away at him, then tries to apologize by saying it thought it was just an all you can eat buffet going on!

Now I'm just imagining the Dark Urge as a very polite posh person (think Niles Crane from Frasier) whenever you talk to them. Catch them in the middle of trying to eat you? Well they're ever so sorry for the misunderstanding!

The game will most likely not be 150GB and the download will definitely not be that much due to compression, you might want to change those.

"Back in October 2020, the Director of Publishing for Larian Studios tweeted that the Baldur's Gate 3 install size is around 80 GB, saying that "we like you having at least 150 GB because that's just good for you"

So what? Did you read the second part? Also, "needed available space" doesn't mean that's the download size, it's the size after unpacking. Download size is much smaller.
