why is my character from baldurs gate? if i choose the outlander background?
i thought the point of the outlander background was that you came from lands far away and are NOT a local.

Hopefully it'll change for the full release.

This, the way it's set as a tag made me think they'd let you choose backgrounds, but weirdly this was never added to EA.

I assume there's likely a version of the Tag system from DOS2 in the full release that lets you pick some details of your character's background- at least the [Baldurian] tags in dialog look exactly like the tag options in that game.
Also, some characters- drow, for instance- aren't treated as being from BG even in the EA version if memory serves.

I was wondering about this too. It was talked about way early on but then radio silence on the subject. Not sure if having different "backgrounds" made it to live.

I'm probably wrong but I think they just did not implement it in the EA builds along with many other things. I mean, we got previews of the Dark Urge as well as info on many subclasses, but they did not have those either.
Perhaps they wanted it to play a larger role later and needed more time to implement the special cutscenes/dialog options. Just easier to update the EA stuff with similar stuff already in that build then add the new content into EA builds.

At least, that is my hope that not being from baldurs gate will be a benefit. I can see Astarion being snarky that we don't know who or what Cazador is/rules and have to explain it like we're 5.

They have an Outlander Background specifically for Baldur's Gate in Descent into Avernus, so there's that.

It could be you were born in baldur's gate, but then chose to leave for the wilds to live on your own until the game starts.

I'm guessing it's a EA restriction though, hopefully lol.

"Deep Gnomes aren't restricted to the Underdark, you know."
