Drow and Phase Spider Matriarch (PSM)
just had another play through and headed to the PSM and it bothers me there is no dialog option to speak with it considering the Lolth sworn drown in the law of DnD wouldn't kill spiders it seems odd to me there is no option of dialog addressing this, is there a reason for this or am i missing something???

Actually, I read up a bit about this because I was curious as well and from what I can find in-game and from threads is that the Phase Matriarch Spider is an Elf who praises Lolth and eventually looked into and figured out how to turn herself into a spider. There are journal entries and you can even find the one confirming that it was successful. It also mentions that she was mocked by Drow which would then make sense why she isn't willing to have an open dialogue with Drow. This is just my assumption though based on what I've read and seen in-game and stuff though.

of of the origins include 'raised by drow' I from the available background I would guess if you pick drow you were raised away from the laws of the drow.

i should probably clarify the i was playing a lolth sworn drow and the second i enter the place it just starts combat, are you suggesting that the drows we play are raised outside of the underdark and drow culture?? if so it would seem odd that you are still lolth sworn but dont follow lolths main rule of not killing spiders?? also it has options to talk and ally other spiders in the game just seems odd it dosnt for that encounter

You could always just knock the spider unconscious by toggling non lethal attacks on. That way you'll never really kill the spider.
Phase Spiders aren't necessarily subjects of Lolth, although I suppose it's possible.

Lolth doesn't control literally every spider in the world.

thats not a bad option actually i did forget that was an option and works from a RP prospective but still would of liked a dialog also i suppose you never know might be something they sorted in full release

Yeah, spiders are important to Lolth, but I don't think her followers are disallowed from ever hurting one.
By analogy- druids are supposed to care for and protect wild animals. They're still allowed to fight back if a leopard is trying to eat their face.

my assumption was that she actually dose, she is the spider queen after all, i suppose it could just apply to the ones in the underdark maybe but she is ment to be a god i would think she would know about all spiders also the ones in the goblin camp know her there smaller or the same size and live on the surface??

i also think that they would be able to defend themselves from spiders but from what i got from the law and the convisations with the other spiders in the game is that they know the drow are followers of lolth and dont really attack them unless lolth wanted them to is the impression i have anyway
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

A lost battle at this point, but as a minor side note I'm still disappointed that Phase spiders in this game aren't actual D&D phase spiders (as in "melee only, specialized ambushers, a mob that makes important to learn how to use your ready-action", etc).

They are just spider-shaped monsters invented by Larian, with a set of completely arbitrary new powers (ranged spit, splash damage, random teleport, etc, etc).

imo in EA anyway they screwed the drow up...nobody under any circumstances trust a drow...look what dritzz went through? and if you were raised or abandoned on the surface youd be a seldarine not lolthsworn im thinking

ps...phase spiders suck...

I believe the Matriarch was actually a follower of Lolth that managed to transform into a Phase Spider. Perhaps they don't care what you are since they weren't born a Phase Spider?

Actually the spider queen's servents have tortured those who have harmed spiders! They take the worship of lolth and her doctrine very seriously!
