Do empty bottles , rope, hammers have a crafting purpose at all?
I see a lot of them and try to loot them all and send them to the camp as well as gathering herbs as I adventure around but I have no idea if there's really any crafting for them or not?

Haven't found a purpose for them. I find it weird how common those are and the shovels, which you can actually use, are almost nowhere.

But it is a Larian game. I wonder if dragonborn can dig with their claws.

As far as I know, in the current EA build they're just vendor trash. There's alchemy coming in the full release, but I don't know if there's going to be a use for stuff like rope and hammers as well.

Wish we saw more of this from those that had the sneak peek. There are many different types of bottles too, so the weakest heal pot & grease likely use the basic bottle, where higher end potions may need the more stylish ones.
theres a mod that gives crafting skills and i believe the hammer is used with it. you can take an enchantment from a magic item, and put it on a different item, pretty neat.

Society has use for these objects, so they're not randomly discarded as pointless artifacts.

This is confusing to me personally. Here I am carrying around rope for drops and instead I'm having to rely on a spell caster for Feather Fall instead. Even at a part where I'm following a character who used rope and tools to climb up a wall I'm not allowed to use that same rope to go back down.

Same for bottles. I nabbed every one of them thinking it was like Divinity where I could find a source and fill them; with all the barrels I was surprised to learn that they're just for throwing and shattering.

Baldur's Gate 3 uses the Divinity engine and these items were essential to crafting in DOS games. It's probably just implemented into the engine that random loot of this sort appears often in crates and stuff to ensure players always have access to a hammer. I don't think any of them are used for the crafting anymore though, as even the crafting system has been stripped down to simply being Mold + Ore = Item.

Yeh, alchemy system will be in game at release. But i do hope they implement some interactions with certain items. I am the kind of player who keeps stuff in inventory "just in case" :D A rope, some dubious crystals and stuff, i end up finishing games with items from the beginning lol
But if i find that 1 time where a rope was needed, i would feel satisfied XD

I'll sure miss being a skeleton and lockpicking with my boney fingers...
