I put a certain cantrip on autocast and went AFK with the same buff stack I'd slowly been adding to for 25 hours.
Until they tried to pull a fast one halfway through, then I put Coup De Grace on autocast.
Raising my hand in agreement on this point as well, the Owlcat and Obsidian (PoE) games have the mini-game thing happening, and I didn't sign up for that. nor do I want to deal with it. I do think perhaps the romance aspect may act as a mini-game, but I hope it's not something you are forced to play throughout and can even avoid.
Im guessing you played on story mode? WOTR has fantastic combat. Baldurs Gate 3 has far far less depth to individual character builds and options compared to WOTR. Both games have very good combat. You also neglect to mention that BG 3 combat is also far far slower than WOTR. Its personal taste. I love WOTR and think BG3 is very good so far but out of the two I much prefer pathfinder.
Tell me you've never played D&D without telling me you've never played D&D.
Playing WOTR on core now and combat is essentially "buff up and roll down or be rolled". Only places where a bit of strategy is needed are the boss fights.
However despite really liking WotR, I think BG3 is better mainly do due the the improved graphics. Plus BG3 has a new story that is not part of WotR.
WotR also has a Turn Based mode, and I use it almost exclusively. Combat is still pretty solid in TB mode. Sure it doesn't have all the cinematics that BG3 has, and its system has more bloat with progression choices, Pathfinder is still a good system. I'll never understand the appeal of RtwP outside of super easy mob fights to speed up grinding. Even TB games like Paper Mario had an "autokill" feature where you would just not enter combat and walk through to slay an enemy if you are 100% going to one-shot them anyway.
Owlcat's shady data collection was a horrible move, and I am glad they decided to back off doing that. Good thing for me WotR was already uninstalled so I could make some room for BG3's full release though!
Thats fair enough but I enjoy how quickly it can all go to ♥♥♥♥. Also though it is indeed very buff heavy (badly needs a way to cast all selected buffs at in a single click rather than manually every time I think) I think half the battle at least is in your level up screen and equipment. Its how you build your characters and its satisfying pulling through combat knowing you built a team effectively your own way. Of course on harder difficulties I am constantly pausing and readjusting here and there and when I unpause and in 3 seconds 2 of my guys are near death then I am frantically scrolling the battle log to see what the hells happened I frickin love it!.
Plus when you have a 6 party members and maybe pets to boot and going up against a large group its like a damn mini war going on. I love buffing up then sending everyone in like its a damn RTS and watching the healthbars and battle log with my thumb ready on the space bar to readjust strategy. Just love that style.
'Real time with pause' combat.
It's also worth pointing out that level 12 is pretty high level in 5e. This'll be a decently long campaign with that level cap
I weep for the future...
