Lore bard question
Anyone know what weapon works best with a lore bard? I am assuming its a bow or crossbow of some kind, but not sure on which works best.

Light crossbow or just cast vicious mockery on the most threatening enemy.

I prefer dual hand-crossbows myself, because i just like them (were kind of rare in EA, hope that changes). But casting Vicious Mockery will take priority anyways, unless is better just to finish off a low hp enemy.

yeah true. I was wondering about that because I saw hand crossbows were a thing. I was wondering why not use heavy versions?

It entirely depends on how you load out your stats, and if you have any racial bonuses.
For instance if you go Gold Dwarf or Githyanki, you gain medium armour, thus you can can focus more on Strength and could easily go Half-plate with a shield and warhammer, or greatsword (for Dwarves and Githyanki respectively). Where as a more dexterity focused Human bard would probably be much better off with ranged weapons (like hand crossbows) or a finesse weapon (like Rapier).

You can dual wield Hand crossbows. In the current EA build you get to add your Dex bonus onto off hand attacks made with a hand crossbow (although this totally is NOT a thing in tabletop, unless you have the two weapon fighting style), also if you dip your weapons (a single dip does both weapons) that further increases the damage, although unless you do it before combat starts, the dip does use up a bonus action which prevents the off hand attack on the first turn, but dipping usually lasts for 3 turns.

Also note that light and heavy crossbows have the loading property, which means you can only make one attack per turn with them, now as a lore bard you would only normally get one attack per turn, but if you were hasted (for instance) you couldn't use the light of heavy crossbow. Hand crossbows do not have this property.
That said in EA the game is ignoring the loading property, it remains to be seen if that will be the case in the full game.

College of Valour gets martial weapons proficiency when you pick the subclass at Lv 3, College of Lore does not.
Or you can pick a race that has martial proficiency, I play Drow :P
