Anyway know how to tell what a mimic chest looks like apart from a regular chest ?
I know dark souls has the funky lil chain and if your perceptive enough u can sorta see it breathing

We'll see if Larian puts some sort of tell into the game like Dark Souls has, but in DnD terms, there's no real indicator.

Save scum before opening it. Or just attack it. Slap the hell outta that chest, leave a hand print on them tiddies.

When it comes to life, and bites your face off, you'll know. ;)

Other than that, maybe use a grease spell, set it on fire and see if the chest takes damage? Not really sure how Larian is going to work it.

by base 5e rules a mimic cant really be detected as long as its in an object form, some dms let you roll anyway but the whole point is the surprise of trying to open a chest and combat starts

Make your Bard do a performance near a chest, mimic's are suckers for good clapping in tone.

Shoot chest with an arrow or even better a cantrip to check.

I really hope, if larian includes Mimics they do more with them then just the stereotypical "trapped" treasure chest...mimics can be so much more...
