Question for you DnD lore experts...
Is the Dragonborn race similar to or linked to the ancient creator race from Neverwinter Nights? If so or if not, then please explain. Thanks.

Would say similar, but not really linked.

"Long ago, it was said, the Old Ones sought to rule the world and so challenged the only other dominant people at the time, the dragons."

The Dragonborn are descendants of dragons.

Lore has also changed from NWN to BG3. NWN was 3rd Edition and this is 5th. So lore is going to not line up

If we're going down that route, given the WotC retcons and new rules for canon, not even sure the Old Ones even actually exist anymore.

that's disappointing because they were an interesting antagonist in NWN

During 3rd edition someone did a post about all the various scaly races which might or might not be related to dragons, it was really surprising how many there were, because it was a lot, however when 4th edition came out they ditched the whole lot and made the Dragonborn, the only other scaly races were the Yuan-ti and Lizardfolk.

The world of the Forgotten Realms used to be called Abeir-Toril, but during the Dawn War Lord AO (the overgod) sundered the world into two leaving behind only Toril (and shunting Abeir into another plane of existence). When the Spell Plague hit (when Cyric Murdered Mystra/Midnight) a portion of Abeir exchanged places with Toril and the Dragonborn came to the realms.

IIRC the old ones from NWN were the Sarrukh, who were thought to be extinct, but the Yuan-ti control their old empire.
They are not "descendants" as much as genetically engineered humanoids originally used as a fighting force for the draconic empires.

And aren't yuan-ti rather a result of Sset's mixing of human and snake blood to create a race of followers, or something? Which, with Sset being of chaotic evil alignment, corresponds with their ties to the marilith tanar'ri and an overall meddling nature. While the Creators were the original lizardfolk inhabitants of what is now the Frozen North back when there were jungles there, and the lizardfolk are their distant relatives who have grown primitive and tribalistic.

Or has that all been retconned already? In any event, there are also the ones from Krynn who are created in a metalic egg-defiling ritual and are loyal thralls to the cult that made them.
