I still dont get it why level cap is 12 for such a massive game?
like this game surely is much better in scale than pillars of eternity 2 no? there was level 20 max i didnt see anything bad about having level 20 it worked smoothly so how can a more massive game with more content have lower level cap? it will feel bad if you get level 12 pretty fast in this game and then after that i feel like i wont progress becuz im max level when i reach max level in any game and you still continue to do content it just feels like you arent progressing

i dont understand this what higher level spells are you talking about? what meteors or swarm spells the larian studios can make their own spells till level 20 and not have them absolutely broken?
You can't NOT include the most iconic 9th level spells. That would be way way worse than simply not going that high.
that doesnt make any sense? why cant they make their own spells?

Because they plan BG4 with level 13-20?

Level 12 is Elite in DnD, level 20 the doorstep to demi-gods.

if you add 13-20, you need completly different enemies.

12th level is actually quite high and where most campaigns end, if not before.
Leveling in D&D slows down drastically after 5th level.

Because these spells are iconic to anyone who likes dnd

Wish
Meteor swarm
PWK
True poly
Time stop
true res

they are all iconic af, not having them would be like not having fireball

Why stop at spells? Max level should be 100! Have Larian never played a Final Fantasy?!

Level 12 is perfectly fine and also gives room for an expansion.

im not asking for 100 nor im comparing BG3 to other type of rpg games but to other D&D games so maybe dont exxegerate?

there will be other means of character progression beyond just class levels, and high-level 5e is notoriously hard to balance
D&D has always been a pain to balance at high level, no matter the edition.
and 5e is a edition of d&d. and is the edition that bg3 is using which is why i specified. but yes yuo are corect

Like BG1 which ended at like.. Level 7? 8?

Ok I've seen several answers (and they do indeed make sense) like you really are a demi god at level 20 in paper and dice D&D and that's with any rules set going back to the originals (I'm that old yeah). There's also the "less is more" answer as well and again, makes perfect sense...lvl 12 doesn't mean less content. But we also have to consider Larian has taken DLC/Expansions into consideration regarding levels and room to grow.

So.. are we comparing D&D games to non-D&D games now after all? Because neither Pillars of Eternity nor DOSII are D&D games.

It will be a grounded game: likely no big stakes and conflict is only local. That is probably why.
