I think paladins should be able to serve a god
There is already a paladin in the game that serves Tyr so it is not unheard of for a paladin to serve a god in this game.

Maybe we should have an option to choose which god we serve or we can serve no god as an option, and the oath breaker parts is still tied to the subclass as usual and the god or no god that you serve can be extra dialogue options only.

What do you think?

When you make your Paladin in BG3, just say to yourself "I serve Helm" or whatever god you want, and viola. Your Paladin serves a god.

There are numerous occasions in the game where you mention "your God,""My God Tyr," and other hints at your deity. 5e DMGB makes it so that Paladins do not have to serve a god/goddess, but that never meant that they couldn't :steamfacepalm: At this point, it makes a lot more sense to be able to choose a deity (if desired) at the character creation, just like the DMGB suggests.

What if someone wants to be that paladin that is pushing their religion onto everyone they meet? Where are the dialogue options to try to convert people away from their gods to whichever one the player worships?

Even EA has lots of that, just no deity selection. Hopefully the go through with it at full release.

That's called Steam Forums lol (just kidding!). Seriously though, there are options where you can pretty much do that--"I will be the judge," "I will decide what is just," etc. Dialogue options like that that push NPCS to accept your position/authority (and thus the God/Goddess that you represent).

Interesting... So if that stuff doesn't end up as cut content, you could have a Paladin of Bhaal if you wanted to. I hope that stuff actually does get added in the full release, because I think that would give Paladins a lot more interesting dialogue options.
Why serve a God? When you could surpass one.

As long as they do it with a little salt, and maybe a fruit tart for dessert.

I am in full agreement with you, OP. The oath system in 5e is lame.

I think Devotion Paladins worship Tyr by default in the game. At least that's what the dialogue with the fallen paladins hunting Karlach implied.

You actually can play as a Paladin whose devoted to one god. You just specialize in both the Cleric and Paladin classes. You should get dialogue options for both classes when relevant.

Choose a god and follow their tenants and you will effectively be serving a god. Technically not what you are implying but until either Larian gives that option or modders add something like it, it is what it is.
