BG3 Best race for Wizard
What do you think is the best race for Wizard? I'm thinking of going with a Shield Dwarf for access to medium Armor and darkvision what do you think?

As an alternative, maybe half orc for relentless endurance.
You get dark vision, don't get the medium armor, but base move speed is better and you have a get out of downed state free card.

Other half orc racials don't seem useful unless you're doing some gish build but if you're trying to be a more durable wizard, having a gimmick that keeps you from being downed once per long rest isn't bad and better mobility will help you avoid getting swung on.

Depending on the items available in the game, it may not end up mattering all that much what race you are. I haven't seen much armor that's catered towards casters like wizards. The best enchantments for wizards and the like tend to be on robes in these kind of games, not armor.

Cantrips don't really affect much unless you get to pick from a spell list that isn't what your class is, or you don't normally get cantrips.

From my experience in tabletop, Misty Step is always nice to have.

You bring it a good point, I might not need armor and just robes. If I go that route which race might be best?

That brings it back to what other people have been saying. Something with Darkvision and whatever suits your fancy. You can pick what stats get the +2 and +1 now, so that's not something you have to worry about when picking a race.

Whichever you think sounds like more fun or better suits the character you want to play.

It's a D&D game with lots of reactivity built in. Just try every race. I have already replayed the Early Access portion of the game so many times. I have yet to be bored. Just choose a race you like and have fun. The only times failure is going to be detrimental to your playthrough is when your party is wiped out.

Reviewing who makes the best wizard(with investigation religion) race with sage background (arcana history)

I was debating draugr or drow.
Both get superior darkvision

The real mental debate is that draugr gets invisibility unlimited out of combat and once in combat.

Drow has keen senses aka prof in perception.

So which is most useful over all the invisibility feature at lvl 5

Or prof in perception ?

Halfling Divination Wizard with the Lucky feat sounds pretty fun. You get to tell the game what's going to happen instead of the other way around.

Doesnt matter at all. Races are just skins for how you look, and offer really no game changing balance whatsoever. Pick one some you like for looks.

I understand that the concept of races just being skins. But does the mechanics like perception matter.

My thought concept of draugr or drow was based more on mechanics.

Drow has a skill that wouldn’t have been acquired.

I know many that never use invisibility at all so to them it isn’t as necessary

At the end of the day I’m asking how do play the world to utilize it best instead of how to play the character.

My first character was a bard. Each spell was geared toward non-violence and how to talk to just about anything and everything. And to gain knowledge in any lore. Tom Bom from LOTR was the inspiration… a powerful bard god that sees no good evil light or dark and is living for something higher because the rest is just ego.

D&D has always been a game to that says exist to kill this or that. My goal is how to complete the game to let all live. That way it is not a zero sum game in game theory.

With playing a wizard I’m curious is there a way to do it.

Mage hand is definitely overrated, ive not seen much worth using it for. And the like 1-2 useful times Lae-zel can handle it. Now, misty step is good and medium armor is good, but you get a lot of alternatives for the former.

Gale have an unique perk, a bonus third level shadow spellslot, he can permanently gain in act 3. Its incredible for classes with low numbers of slots like paladins or warlocks.

The humble sack race is probably best for wizard, where their robe isn't a hindrance like it would be in something like the 100m. It's a bit niche but a three-legged race might not be too bad either.
