Multiclassing question
With the changes to multiclassing in BG3 would it be possible to have a fighter that has a barbarian's rage ability?

I really, really like that aspect of the Barbarian, but I am also huge on aesthetics and I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't really change my character's clothing as a barbarian without losing the AC bonus.

You could make a Fighter/barbarian hybrid with Multiclassing if you want.

Yes.

MCing means that you have acces to each classes features.

Some works better in synergy than others.

But you can MC fighter/barbarian with no issues.

You can start as a lvl1 fighter, then get a lvl of barbarian.

Din't check if it changed in BG3, cause in DnD5 rules you gain the proficiencies of class ONLY when you start at 1st level with it.

So per DnD rules if you first start as a barb, THEN get a level of fighter, you don't gain any of the fighter's proficiencies (no medium/heavy armor etc)

But if you do first Figther and THEN Barb, you retain all of the Figther's proficiencies.

Now maybe in BG3 you simply get the gear proficiency of whatever class you've MCed into, but thats something we'll see at launch.

you can create a hybrid, they just wont be as powerful as a pure class on either side.

That was possible before any changes to multiclassing...

edit: provided you don't wear HEAVY armor.

But Barbarians ARE proficient in medium armor. Rage doesn't work when wearing heavy armor. So unless they want a specific fighter feature like second wind or action surge, there isn't really a point to barbarian multiclassing with a fighter.

You gain some of the new class's proficiencies when you multi class in PnP. The chart is on p. 164 of the PHB.

2 level dips of fighter as a barb for action surge and fighting style is definitely worth it.

I'd say even 3 levels for Battlemaster might be worth it for the extra combat options.

We don't sully the beauty of the Battlemaster with Barbarian dung eating.
