If we play as an Origins character, we'll pretty much never hear its voice?
May be obvious, but I came to realize that even though I really wanted to play Shadowheart, I LOVE her accent and missing it for the entire playthrough would kill me. So I'm undecided.

What do y'all think? Has anyone any definitive proof of how it works? I saw some playthrough on youtube but it may have been just some scenes. I fear you'll just become "silent protagonist".

Yup. Your character doesn’t talk during dialogue. Just reacting to what you click on and stuff in the world like in DOS2.

You are not a completely silent protagonist. Even if you pick a custom char instead of a Origin one. You do speak on occasion in some scenes. But I am not sure how much of her voice you would get to hear if you play her , instead of her being a member of your party.

You become the strong, silent type.

That's why I say that it's best to create a custom character. Then you can converse with all of these wackos and ultimately discover who will be the last man standing in the end.

You're essentially playing a nurse in a psyche ward.

A guidance counsellor in a hospital for the criminally insane.

Enjoy.

I'm just extremely undecided but, yes, I think custom 1st run may be best.
With Divinity 2 going Custom pretty much negated access to a bunch of extra important lore.

Here... idk. But for example, I don't know what secret Shadowheart is holding, so playing her first would rob me of the surprise too. I'm strongly thinking of going custom, but... to Dark Urge or not to Dark Urge? AaAAAaAAa I WON'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO PLAY THIS

something I disliked about Ds2 and it made me simply have to look it up on youtube because there was no way I was going to play it over and over. The color codes element matching combat was fun the first time (technically the second time, as I had played DS1.)

I'm glad they gave the custom character a path of their own. I hope it's as fulfilling.

Someone mentioned before that origin characters, at least, were originally gonna be fully voiced player characters, but backlash caused this to never happen.

Lack of player voice is unfortunate in this game. It makes many of the cutscenes fall flat for me. But I'm never going to play an origin character anyway so at least I'll hear all of them.

Well except maybe Dark Urge. Since that should work very well with a character I already had in mind to create.

Yes. The dark urge character is the 6th confirmed origins character. Essentially it's your custom character with an origins story.

I wonder if the dark urge was always supposed to be Tav but they decided it would upset people to be forced to play it so they kept blank Tav as well.

You're probably right about this. They wanted to probably wanted DU to be default for reasons obvious to fans of the 1&2, but didn't want to alienate new players not familiar with the setting by forcing them into such a specific role like the OG ones.

Oh, I meant regular custom. Dark Urge is going to be some seriously heinous stuff apparently
Damn I just want to play custom to not spoil the character stories to me now.

All we need is a mod that plugs something like xvasynth into the game. And jiggle physics.
Amogus Jul 14, 2023 @ 1:28pm
what's wrong with silent protagnist, you don't like silent but deadly?
bjornvermeulen4 Jul 14, 2023 @ 1:39pm
