Baldur's Gate 3 Length
Hi,

I wonder how big gameplay wise Baldur's Gate 3 will be on release given that 1 had 7 (If I remember correctly) chapters and 2 had 10 (Including Throne of Bhaal)? Also, unlike other games which are 3D previous games were quite small compared.

3 acts, median playthrough time probs around 120 hours.

I mean, there's no set length of what a chapter represents in game time. BG2 throws you directly into its second chapter once you've escaped the tutorial/prologue dungeon, and you can rapidly enter its third chapter if you're particularly frugal and penny-pinching.

BG3 is almost certainly three acts long, but each act is likely significantly longer than the chapters of the original games. I'd estimate total completion time as comparable to that of BG1-2, give or take depending on how difficult you find the game. Certainly north of 100 hours.
I am basising this not on previous BG games but on Divinity OS 2 which was Larian's last game. Easily over 100 hours for an average playthough. My first run of DOS2 was 150 hours and i missed a ton of side content even then.
Larian has gone on record to say BG3 is bigger then they expected it to be when they first started making it so i could see 200-300 hours worth of content if you were to do every little thing and get as close to a 100% run as you can considering some choices will lock you out of certain things based on what we got in EA.

Yeah, not even close. Dos2 is on average a 60-70 hour playthrough. ACT 1 of BG3 is by their own claim about 35 hours of gameplay, they also say act 2 is the biggest just like in DoS2. So lets say act 1 35 hours, act 2 60 hours and act 3, 35 hours. That's a reasonable 130 hours of exploring everything. Its not gonna be a 300 hour playthrough, that's ridiculous.

Sure you CAN spend 1000 hours in a playthrough, some have spend 1000+ hours repeating the act 1 alone but that's not a reasonable presentation of the content.

What we know for sure is that the game will be comprised of three acts, that the first currently available is not complete (not sure how much of it is missing, but let's estimate it to 80% of the total) and that Swen Vincke (Larian's boss) stated explicitly that the second act of the game will be the biggest one, outsizing the others by a significant margin.

Even assuming that on the other hand the third will be the shortest and straight to the conclusion, that puts the game in the 80-100 hours ballpark, conservatively, for a completinist run.

Of course, experienced players are going to be able to rush toward these three acts on a much shorter timeframe, but that's hardly a good frame of reference for these types of games.
Which means act 3 is rushed and broken in comparison to 1 and 2

Probably, just like their past games.

Really? Have you played the full game already? Facinating.

There are some people that complain about D:OS2's final act being worse than the rest of the game, I disagree personally since I look at the whole picture and don't chop it into pieces and rate the individual pieces by themselves, but there are those that would agree with that statement so there will likely be worry for that sort of thing for this title too.

Maybe he has a time machine!
It is confirmed that a full play through would be 75-100 hours and over 200 if you do everything.

How would anyone know that the final act is any better or worse? They would not. So lets not discuss people's nonsense assumptions.
