You just zoom in to create what looks like a third-person view.
I'm just speculating though, as controller support isn't out yet and won't be until launch, so nobody really knows.
But I wouldn't worry about it. Controller support for PC based games has come a long way. Diablo 3 was pretty good, Diablo 2 resurrected knocked it out of the park(maybe a little to much) and most other games have followed similar outlines.
It's probably even easier for a game like BG3 because it's turn based and fast actions and reflexes are not as necessary.
I'm sure it will be good.
