But as with anything, if the DM and players want it, then there's LITERALLY no reason for them not to have tails.
So if you create YOURS dont put a tail on it and STFU and HAVE SOME FCKING FUN.
Crybaby.
I think you're overthinking this so much my man
When all you can do on the topic is repeatedly say "but... but they don't! they DON'T have those! they don't have those because... well, they don't! and it makes sense, because... it says they don't!" because the lore on them not having it has never been that deep and it's literally just how they chose to design the race?
You need to just admit that that's all there is to it. It's just because they were designed that way, and no lore is being trampled upon when they DO have tails, they don't get some sort of goofy mechanical advantage over literally every other race in the game with free flight from level 1, nothing is adversely affected. You are so desperate to speak on this from an unassailable perspective forged of pure logic, but you can't, because there's no logic BEHIND why they don't have tails, they just kinda don't in regular 5e
It's fine that BG3 gave them tails (if they did, I assume that pic's indication), they're still the same dragonborn lmao
D&D's OWN OFFICIAL, LICENSED WRITING states that they want you to get creative when you'd like things to be different, and Larian seem to think Dragonborn look more fun with tails. Considering the Dark Urge character doesn't have a tail, it's either Dragonborn don't actually get tails, or you can choose not to have them. Now everyone's happy except people who try to be purists about soft background lore that is, BY DESIGN, flexible for this very purpose
I'd be for a compromise, they bring in the optional races feat's.
That would be "Dragon Fear", "Dragon Hide" and "Dragon Wings (UA)".
Dragonborn cannot see in the dark, fly, or have natural armor from takeoff.
This breath weapon + resistance is normally the only thing they can do. which is unfortunately weak, I would also prefer "Fizban's Treasury of Dragons" rules.
I wish my life was as perfect that the only concern for my day was fictional beings having tails or not
Canonically a few have tails but its seen as a deformity by the rest of the dragonborn, if that makes you feel a bit better about it.
