Shield+Staff
Why can't you equip a shield and a staff? Both are 1 handed. As a druid it's traditional to use a shield and a wooden staff that is also a druidic focus :CryingGhost:

quarterstaff is not a druidic focus, it is versatile however so you should be able to hold quarterstaff and shield. Though some spells require you to have a free hand.

Druids and shields? More like clerics and shields. I have never seen a duid use a shield.

There's no good reason not to use a shield as a druid in 5e, unless you're doing some sort of weird niche build.

Wow. Another example of confusion from 2nd edition for me if this is true cause I was like staves are 2hand, and druids can not use shields.

No they aren't.

In this game a Quarterstaff is a two-handed weapon.

Druids are proficient with simple weapons, which include the Quarterstaff.

You'll have to give them a different weapon if you want to use a shield.

Which is an odd deviation from 5e, where quarterstaff is a versatile weapon, not a two-handed weapon. That hardly makes it too powerful, so a nerf isn't necessary.

What are you people talking about? You absolutely 100% can already use a staff with a shield as a druid. Nothing special required.

The OP must not have actually tried it, because it certainly works.

Pretty sure in the current EA build, you can equip staff + shield.

I don't have the game installed at this moment to check, I just assumed OP would have actually tried it before complaining that it doesn't work.

I think it was either in the paladin or barbarian updates which are somewhat recent. Older EA versions had staves exclusively as two-handers.

Yeah, but this thread was started today so one might assume they are complaining about the current version.

Also that patch was forever ago, so it's even more bizarre to start this thread out of nowhere.

All my druids use shields :P

As far as I can tell, 2e druids could still use shields, just specifically wooden shields. I'm not sure how restricting that was in practice.

Just checked. Oops. You are right. Only "wooden" shields, but yes can use shields.
