Companion's lacking diversity

And no I am not talking about diversity as in Asian, Black, Arab and White.
So far we have:
Lae'zel (Githyanki)
Astarion (High-Elf)
Gale (Human)
Shadowheart (High Half-Elf)
Wyll(Human)
Karlach (Tiefling)
Halsin ( Wood Elf)
Minthara (Drow)
Minsc (Human)
Jaheira (Half-Elf)

So alot of Elves and Humans and two somewhat less normal races. Yet not a single Dragonborn, Goblin, Gnome, Dwarf or Half Orc and to top it off, dwarves don't have a wide variety of beards.

I felt the same way when i first started playing early access. I had hoped there was more of a Dragon Age 1 vibe, a vibrant and diverse cast of different races with vastly different outlooks and goals.

Eh, i mean it would have been nice to atleast have one short race as a companion or origin character. I guess you could make your player character one of those races or use a hireling if you want though to round out your party with more diversity in terms of race. But i do think it's abit of a misstep to not have atleast one companion that was a gnome or something.

Tbf DAO(and DA2/I) are not really good example of a diverse cast.
In DAO: only 1 dwarf who is stupid and insulting to proper dwarf image, 1 elf who is a city elf, not dalish. Others are humans and honestly outside of *secret character* are pretty meh. And Sten who was a representative of an undeveloped race at that point, still cool dude tho.
Awakening was a little beter, but its characters were mostly underdeveloped, both elf and gnome would be much cooler in main game.
DA2 forgot about dwarves except Varric, who is "breaking stereotype". But at least we got different elves and more varied human cast.
DA3...no proper dwarf again...

They were taken from Baldur's Gate, which as a city has a big human majority and elves would be the 2nd most common race there, so realistically this cast makes sense, but at least one dwarf or maybe a halfling or gnome would have been nice.

She's basically an evil paladin of Lolth.

She is either Vengeance paladin or Oathbreaker.
There are no more god-themed paladins in 5e...and paladins can't even choose their gods in BG3.

She's a worshiper of Lolth nonetheless, so paladin of Lolth seems pretty accurate. Just because you can't select a God in the character creation screen doesn't mean that you don't worship one.

Also, oaths are directly linked to something greater than the paladin. Let's say she's taken an oath of vengeance. Vengeance for what? You guessed it, it is most likely for something related to her own people which are fundamentally Lolth worshippers as Lolth is an integral part of the "evil" drow society.

every fantasy race is "human adjacent" because we base fantasy creatures off of the human skeleton. We even have a word for it, "humanoid".

I do not find it a issue or concern. There is enough choices and the ones available, I only care about the human and half Elf ones.

But I still understand the point made. There is still the possibility those who want more choices, will have the choice of a Orc or Half Orc. One was pictured with the player in one of the videos of game play.

Yeah, I wish for smaller races companions too. I'm still mad they scratched Helia, the halfling werewolf bard, as a companion.

pretty sure i saw alot of short people in witcher 3 cast . I guess they are too small to notice :D

Probably not so much different from how pornography with midget actors looks; like sex with a vertically challenged, fully developed adult.

Let's not forget that players can make halflings and gnomes and dwarves, and I doubt there's much standing in the way of romance options just 'cause somebody made a short boi.
