Companion's lacking diversity

And no I am not talking about diversity as in Asian, Black, Arab and White.
So far we have:
Lae'zel (Githyanki)
Astarion (High-Elf)
Gale (Human)
Shadowheart (High Half-Elf)
Wyll(Human)
Karlach (Tiefling)
Halsin ( Wood Elf)
Minthara (Drow)
Minsc (Human)
Jaheira (Half-Elf)

So alot of Elves and Humans and two somewhat less normal races. Yet not a single Dragonborn, Goblin, Gnome, Dwarf or Half Orc and to top it off, dwarves don't have a wide variety of beards.

Minthara is a "dark paladin". We used to call them blackguards, but this terminology is obsolete in 5e.

She's basically an evil paladin of Lolth.

Imagine sticking a bunch of duergar, half-orcs and Dragonborns in there. I don't imagine a lot of people would be interested in romancing, talking to them and stuff. It's romance the prime factor that makes players wants to engage with PC's through hours of quests and dialogue primarily.

You show me a Drider Companion and Ill show you the weirdest romance you have ever seen.
If they tossed in some weirder races I know for a fact id be playing them instead of Human #1, Human-Like #2 ect.

I hate that that seems to be true lol.
Like, don't get me wrong, I'm not immune to a fun bit of romance writing.
But the absence of romantic possibilities doesn't make me all of a sudden NOT want to spend time with the characters, sadly I do seem to be in the minority on that though, just take a look at Marvel's Midnight Suns' salesnumbers lol (a game which had a lot of companion dialogue and writing and fun living with them stuff, but zero romance and people flipped out at that).

We have seen at least Teifling, and there option for custom Hirlings to adventure with you. So if your not fan of the main cast of followers you can always make your own. I would have make guess we probably see more variety once full release.

All the characters in this game suck. All origin and companions character are bad.
And by the way things are going I DOUBT we will even see a PROPER DWARF as a hireling.

Yeah, I was hoping for at least a Dwarf companion with the typical D&D Dwarf humor/personality. That would have been a great addition to the party.

Lack of short races is pretty sad, maybe there are potential companions that are not revealed yet?

She is either Vengeance paladin or Oathbreaker.
There are no more god-themed paladins in 5e...and paladins can't even choose their gods in BG3.

Couldn't agree more. I sort of with we got Origin/playable Goblins down the line. Like, allow me to "Sazza" and recruit her, for example. At least as a story character that will stay in the camp.

Huge potential for character growth too.
