Finesse Barehanded option?

One of my favorite builds was a halfling monk that used barehanded as a finesse weapon and dump all his points into dex. Used to wreak havoc on the PW servers on NWN1 with that character. So since I can't play as a monk in BG3's EA build, I wonder if anyone who has played the newer version or knows the system, will I be able to recreate this and set barehanded attacks as being finesse based?

Monks in 5e can use Dex in place of Strength for monk weapons and unarmed attacks innately, so yes.

In 22 days you'll be able to. In the full release you can play a monk :)

You can use dex for unarmed (barehanded) attacks. You can not make them 'finesse' which is a weapon condition which also allows you to use dex in place of str but is also a necessary attribute for sneak attacks from rogues. So yes, dex punches, no 'finesse' if you want to add sneak attacks from a rogue dip.

Watch the recent panel. They even show off monk a bit, though sadly not as much as I would have liked.

So yeah. You can play monk like that. Or close to it anyway.

This is great news! Was hoping they kept this from 3.5e. Thanks guys.

I finesse barehanded at my PC every day.

Monk unarmed attacks don't have the Finesse tag and aren't weapons, so in this system can't be used for sneak attacks. Source: My now gimped level 7 Monk 1 Rogue.
