How did dragon born come into being ?
Are they the product of a humanoid and dragon mating ? or are they some kind of by product of magic kinda like tieflings ?

The canon is kinda vague, which may be intentional. Some stuff claims they're the result of breeding and slavery to being created by an actual god of dragons. Either way, they're from another world that doesn't have magic, but is actually controlled by primordials. An event known as the "Spellplague" caused a lot of crazy magic shenanigans and a part of their world connected with Faerun, destroying a good portion of their homeworld in the process (I think).

They crossed over and settled here. That's the really short shtick of it.

^the wiki has a good amount of detail, but I'd also recommend hopping onto some DnD focused forums for more info, as a lot of it is from older editions that 5e didn't bother republishing.

I believe the current lore is that dragons on another world created them as a slave race before they freed themselves and made their way to Abeir-Toril.

I think they're from Abeir, actually. Didn't they get to Toril during the Spell plague?

I know that was the canon when I was a kid. I remember reading about their creation in one of the Dragonlance books, but I cannot, for the life of me, remember which one.

Basically, Abeir is Toril's ("our") twin planet. They're separate but kinda bled into each other during the Spellplague. That was when Mystra died, yet again, and made the Weave all unstable. That's how they came over I think.

Dragons living in Abeir genemodded some local species to make perfect slaves IIRC.
