That's what makes the Fighter and Paladin unique.
Can't have everyone allowed to wear power armour.
Especially Barbarians. They are essentially savages.
There are variants to a Barbarian in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous where you can wear heavy armor I believe while raging, though rage works slightly differently in that game.
I mean when your rage cuts all damage you take in half from weapons normally, and if you are bear all but psychic damage, why does wearing armor really matter at that point?
"Civilised" people won't rage.
Even for fighters and other classes will only be valued for the stats and effects it provides and not the AC.
An adult white dragon (CR 13) only has a +11 to hit chance and an AC of 18. Being able to cap a dragon’s chance to hit you at 50% is pretty significant. And if you can force disadvantage (say with Blur) so it has to make 2 rolls dropping it to 25% chance, your golden. Obviously it would still have breath attacks which turn into saving throws by the PC, but those only have a chance of recharging after 1 use
Raging is all about sacrificing defence for offensive with reckless abandon, that has nothing to do with what you're wearing, unless it's DnD because ♥♥♥♥ me I suppose.
