Baldur's Gate 3
Okay, I give up. What the **** is a Tav?
I'm usually pretty good at figuring out what strange insider terms mean when I lurk in a new community, but this one is flying right over my head. Is it *just* a custom character? The forums way of saying "PC" or "MC" or "toon"? Or is it more specific than that? And where did it come from? I've literally never heard it on any other RPG forum or on any social media.

Tav is a custom character. Full blank slate that players can make whatever.

The Dark Urge is a custom origin character who has amnesia but is constantly dealing with unique dark urges that other origin characters and Tav does not.

Then there are the origin characters who have set-in-stone backgrounds.

It's like Daniel being the name of the Daemon Prince in WH3. You give a default name, it's canon now. (Especially if other people are like me and jump right to attributes, class, appearance, etc. and forget to actually change the name before launching the character)
In all fairness the "name" bar is small and not noticeable hidden amoung the other stuff, I have forgotten it many times this is why some games make it big and noticeable and often right next to the NEXT option so you see it before continuing lol
Fallout 4 even goes a step further...you can't even proceed with char creation unless you entered a name.

There is a lot of people around using the letters "bs"

It look likes it means something bad.

I'm just pretending to understand it for 3 years.

Now that's funny. Three years.

All you had to do was Google 'what does BS mean' and you would have had your answer.

Google isn't god-like yet, but it's smarter than you're giving it credit for.

If you describe something as BS, you are saying that it is nonsense or completely untrue.

BS is an abbreviation for 'bullsh--'. [mainly US, informal, rude, disapproval].
I think this is "The Avatar" Tav.
Tadpoled AdVenturer, that's it, that's the joke.
Jesus. He's named Tav because the games original code name was Gustav. The first build is GUSTAV.

If you go to the Multiplayer browser you'll see that the campaign people are playing is GustavDev still.

Hm. And there I was sure it was an abbreviation and "inside joke" from D&D for "The Adventurer"
Usually People referred as >OC< - Original Character. Thats also the term Artists use. Coming up with >Tav< with whatever Reason was a stupid one.
It was probably a bunch of RPG Newbies who thought were smart with that one after they started with BG3, when there already was a term used since decades.
That's another virgin
I always thought it was a shortcut for Tavern (an inn for travelers.) So, upon making it the character, it could be anybody. Anyone is an adventurer.
This thread made me laugh but I did ask the same questionb at one point.
I read somewhere that it's short for Gustav, the insert main character when you don't use an origin one. Later changed to Tav for some odd reason.
"Tav" is used to distinguish playing as a regular custom character vs playing a Dark Urge. Since a Dark Urge is also a custom character but they have a preset name "The Dark Urge".
