PG level Romance?
Just watched the last Panel, and they showed the romance stuff.
I KNOW it's the 21st Century,. but not everyone wants to deal with 'adult' content. Just the stuff the NPC was saying during the demo was definitely risque.

So Larian... seriously,, will there be any romance options that are 'family friendly', or at least limited to PG? I would like to actually play a paladin who's a Good decent character and have the romance option that is clean.

Do I have any chance of enjoying that part of the game? Or do I need to give the romance section of the game a WIDE berth?

I can watch World War II movies all day. Violence and nudity are not the same thing.

I accept that violence and gore are part of playing a Paladin and putting an end to Evil in a game... But it kind of sucks when a game allows me to play a moralistic Hero unless I want that same hero to fall in love,,, in which case he suddenly has to have NO morals in most modern games... because for an unknown reason the ONLY unacceptable kind of romance story in the modern world seems to be the old school fall in love with the nice girl and get married and THEN have intimate relations kind of story.

Some very few of us... if we are going to play an Arthurian kind of Paladin... want an Arthurian kind of romance. An actual romance of the heart... not a late night Cinemax/ CW show.

Modern Parenting? WTH? I am using these terms to be clear without trying to sound like I am judging others for their peferences.

I am in my mid 50s. I am the one playing the game. I don't share modern affectations of how romances must always include overt sexuality. I recently played Pathfinder Kingmaker and was following a romance path. The path wound up leading to a point where you had to have sex with the character off screen or ruin all the work you had done. It ruined the entire effort for me.

I was hoping that I might be able to enjoy an actual romance that didn't rely on having sex in this game. I also ant to play the game without Evil companions.

I am what many folks call a Goody Two Shoes. I wanted an Arthurian Courtly love Archie and Betty romance without feeling like I am on the CW.

This has ZERO to do with my Parenting. :steamfacepalm:

I think maybe what you're advocating and requesting is ace options in RPG games, as in asexuality which is...valid, but it's not been done yet in any game ever and I don't think it is in this. Because- I hate tell you this but, almost all romantic relationships tend to get physical at one point or another because that tends to be the what is born out of love and attraction.

It's weird seeing you cite Kingmaker that has romance built up to offscreen fade to black and very vaguely suggestive sex 'moment' as something that 'ruined' the romance for you. Because- yeah, romance and relationships tend to evolve beyond the platonic towards physical intimacy otherwise...yeah, you're asking for ace options in the game.
just wait until he finds out that in Kingmaker you can have a threesome with twins

Are they bad humanoids? Most likely yes. No I don't have a problem with killing bad people.

Sex is personal and a private matter to a lot of people. So show some respect that they want to keep it that way.

Also some people may not care for sex or romance in videogames.

It's D&D man! It will never be family friendly it's a world full of strangers.
Better think about Mario Bros or Zelda.

Fairly sure you can have a romance without agreeing to bed the character but there is also a modesty filter you can put on, AND you can skip any scenes you don't like with the escape button.

But the game is rated 17+ for a reason, and since day one they showed off concept art of the explicit scenes that quite clearly demonstrated they were going for a Game of Thrones tv-style sex scenes.

I get the 17+ rating in general... But I don't think it's unreasonable to hope that... if they REALLY planned for the entire spectrum, as they stated, that there could be an option for Courtly Romance sans overt Adult content. If they are going to have scenes that go as far as the one demoed in that direction, one would hope that the other end of the spectrum would allow for a much more demure and more family friendly option as well.

no, there will be no wholesome traditional straight relationships.
best you can manage as a male will be shadowheart. she wont bang you the first night and all you do is talk and cuddle. spoilers i guess but i think its been publicly confirmed for years now theres only one true sex scene in ea. So that being said, this means most characters you'll have to work your way up through multiple scenes before you get something as intense as bear sex.

But i dont think any of them are going to be wholesome and vanilla. they seem to all be pretty edgy, but, hey, we dont have -anything- confirmed, so this is all just asking our impressions so far.

Tadpole brain lady is super PG

You have the choice to not romance any companion. Actually, such should not even be a player's main reason for playing the game. :P It's much more than a romance game with sex scenes. Which there are other better ways to get your fill of that.

Thinking more on it, I kind of get it - a bit like the Queen Galifrey romance in wrath of the righteous. Maybe there will be some fair damsel to rescue and modestly retire with at the end. Or someone could mod one in.

I mean, they're literally asking about romance.

If the EA is anything to go by, you aren't going to be forced into a good time with your clothes off, but no idea what the rest of the game will entail. DOS2's romance arcs allows you to decline the sex bit when you get to that, doesn't it?

Hey, can we stop making fun of somebody that has a sensible question and wants their type of fantasy as represented in the game as any other? That'd be cool, thanks.

Anyways, to answer the question, after playing the EA I personally noticed that the romance with Shadowheart and Wyll seem a bit slower paced than the other ones on display. Will there still be a sex scene? Eh, yeah, probably. Though Wyll's romance scene in the EA has a choice where you can ask him to bed you or ask him to just spend the night comfortably with him, so it's entirely possible there's potential for such a choice in other scenes as well.

Really, there's nothing to be done besides speculate. Sex as the culmination (or at least a part of) a video game romance arc has been a staple for a while, since Dragon Age at least. So I'm tempted to say you shouldn't hold your breath. But it's also possible.

Yes and so will BG3.

Sometimes declining results in hilarity too.
Astarion asked if I wanted to "Have fun" right?

I clicked the option to just walk away. His response?
"That's a 'No' to fun, then?!"

THIS I would enjoy. An Arthurian romance worthy of my Arthurian style D&D characters.

You can always say no tho, to everything. You play exactly the way you want.

Well I played Dragon Age... and did the Romance Arc... and it worked out without the need for "Physical Intimacy". That was an amazing game that realized that such an option makes as much sense as the more physical ones.
