Genuinely confused about the "woke" complaints (not talking about bears)

I am, as i said, confused. I just skimmed the comments and threads and found "woke this" "woke that", "trash, go woke go broke" etcetera.

Aren't we forgetting, a tiny bit, that this is an rpg? There litterally can't be an "agenda", if you can decide what you do. If you find a couple that seeks love, regardless who the members of that couple is, you can help them, hinder them, ignore them, or fling a fireball at them.

If a group or even a single NPC tries to... "represent X minority based on real life", you can do the same. Let's even assume that you encounter a situation or a quest or a character that enbodies something you hate... in an RPG you can actually maim that person or make his life hell.

So, and i am serious, why the woke talks? Your character, your game, will be as "woke" as you'll make it, or as conservative as you want. The aligments do go from Lawful Good to Chaotic Evil... and you know the fun part? in a good RPG there is extreme variance even inside the same aligment.

So again i ask... how can there be "wokeness" if you are playing an RPG that lets you act freely?

I'm guessing the whole "woke" accusation comes from the fact that you can choose your character's pronouns more than anything, although some people do say it in regards to the bear stuff so... who knows? Probably a little of column A, a little of column B.

I think that a very big reason for why this is so prevalent is because of how often we get whacked over the head with poorly written, checkbox riddled garbage that use their minority characters as shields against criticism. Its basically resulted in a knee jerk reaction where seeing a minority in a lead role results in peoples guards immediately going up. Ten years ago, I'd bet good money that the announcements made wouldnt have got more than a bat of an eyelash in response to them.

Woke means choice, freedom of choice. That's what it means to these people- never mind that in their play through they can be as PC and straight as they want to be, that they never need to see anything suggestive or even god forbid 'gay', no no no, that's not the problem.

No even cares about the bears. It's just usual trolling. It happened to every major game release I can think of. Sekiro had a ton of meltdowns for zero reasons then went on to win GOTY. Starfield is having that now. Atomic heart had a billion posts about the two lewdbots once they were revealed.

As a minority myself (afro hispanic), I actually agree with you, I hate being treated as a marketing tool and getting token characters there for a meaningless reason. I don't want offbrand characters or thrown bones with virtue signaling recasts. Of course, Hollywood and now slowly gaming are creativiely bankrupt, so they're just seeing racial politics as an easy way to justify re-re-releasing previously sucessful and thus safely profitable content.

And frankly, good on people for shoving that shiz back even if they're doing it in the worst way possible.

But there's literally nothing woke in BG3 aside from pronoun/genital usage which every RPG is using as default now and more sexual gradients which shouldn't matter because it's not forced on you, romance who you want.

But I mean, 99% of the characters in this game are either non-humans (goblins) or they're white, including the vast majority of companions lol. Wyll is the only non-white main character. Maybe minsc if you're generous. All 3 major villians (which are potential allies) are whte, lol.

I mean, I guess the githyanki are green egg laying frog people, dunno if you want to count that as a minority lmao...

But I'm struggling to see the 'woke' here. They let you dissociciate genitals and pronouns even though in practical terms in-game it matters less than, say, your race (people really hate drows for instance), your choices, or even your class since ever companion is apparently optionally pansexual.

I think that makes for worse characterization and writing, but it would have been more woke to force non-hetrosexual conformative relationships to romance someone.

Larian is in Belgium. They don't have anywhere near the same political hellscape we do, they are merely nodding politely to player choice, and frankly it's probably at the behest of WoTC and not their choice. Wizards told them not to use alignment systems either.

None of it is forced or gets in the way of a typical fantasy adventure should that be what you want. Not sure where the sirens are here...

Honestly i believe this is just about frustrating people that find an excuse to behave in a forum like ♥♥♥♥♥.
I don't believe they are so righteous about the subject at all. Otherwise they would have contacted Larian directly (with a large chance of having no answers). No instead they are here because they are looking for a fight for their own entertainment.
We already have seen that in the past, a dude even confessed at the end of his anti-woke nonesens that he was around just to have the fun of insulting everyone.

Not just the forums though keep in mind, twitter, even the live-stream that was having a nice chat got flooded by spam by these people the moment a gay kiss happened. It would be great if it was just a few attention seekers on these forums alone.

Haters tried their best to make Hogwarts Legacy seem like a failed game, going as far as harassment. Game was a great success so the agenda did not make a bloody difference. And haters are haters no matter which side they are on.

Truth is, bad movies flop. Bad games fail. Simple as that. If BG3 is fun, it will succeed regardless of their political alignment message and whatnot. The way I see it, BG3 will most likely succeed.

Maybe Im wrong.. but as I play the game I give 70% to quest and gameplay and 20% to romances for bonus. Using the bestiality entrance to bring more people? "or people" to play the game idk. at least they stop on animal.. we dont have any other drama romance that will affect like the use of underage or other things that are ilegal

They did not 'use bestiality entrance to bring more people' what the heck are you on about dude? They show cased a romance with Halsin and let the audience decide what options to pick when interacting with him, which eventually led to that COMEDIC scene.
