There need to be 10x more magic items
I'm sad at how low magic this game is. In all of act 1, there's maybe a dozen magic items and most of them just suck. You character at level 1 will likely have mostly the same equipment at level 12 at this rate.

Compare to DoS2 that has 20-30 per act that refreshes every time you reload the game, and a bunch of other random loot that's actually good.

All of this, but the opposite of it.

There's far too much magic in BG3.

DnD 5E is meant to be low-magic (in the equipment department). The devs have honestly been overly-generous.

Awful post.

There’s literally 10+ different magic items at the first vendor you encounter. Take a lap

I found the power progression in EA to be lackluster. Levels came slow and magic items were largely worthless outside of the RNG +1 weapons and armor available as early as the Grove. Even in the Underdark I was still just looting +1 stuff or gear with extremely situational bonuses.

At least they aren't using attunement. My god that sucks.

Then you missed a metric ton of magic items.

There’s a ton of Barb specific gear, helmets that add to your intellect and give you bonus actions. There’s a SLEW of items that augment your healing spells (a ring, 2-3 gloves, boots). There’s a ring that gives you Darkvision, a ring that gives you more movement.

There’s a whole giant forge to craft Adamantine gear that has ‘reeling’

There’s a mace that’s +2 and has a vampiric life steal quality but can drive you mad, theres another forge you have to do a side quest for to make weapons that silence enemies. A flaming sword that does fire damage

I mean, the sheer idea of this thread is insane. The game is littered with a wide variety of magic items. It’s too much.

D:OS2's loot system was pretty naff. Max Lucky Charm, get all the free loot, sell it for gold (or just steal it all) and reroll merchants for good affixes.

9/10 Unique items past Fort Joy were barely worth using because you outleveled them so quickly.

i dont know, i see where he's coming from.
in world of warcraft, every 5th enemy you kill drops an uncommon. every strong enemy drops a rare. and epics, while rare, can easily be acquired in various dungeons at a 100% success rate. And now, you even get free legendaries all the time.

compared to that BG3 has virtually no magic items and the ones you do get are literally just, like, they dont do anything with a few exceptions.

Either way you feel about it, there are mods which add a host of magic items to the game, and thousands of others agree that thats a good thing. So, after release, I expect that mod to be updated but who knows how long itll take to spread a bunch of magical items all over the game, i mean modders probably want to play the game first before releasing mods for it otherwise they'd spoil it for themselves.

but yeah. there will be more magic items on release, and with mods coming later.
So we're all in agreement then, BG3 nerds a 10x reduction in magic.

I mean, I know what you wanna say, but "thousands" doesn't mean that much in a game with 2 mil copies sold.
even 20000 are just 1%...^^

There's probably plenty of magic items in Baldur's Gate (city). The BG series is based in DnD and magic items are usually very expensive and don't fall off trees. In a lot of good DnD based games you'd be lucky to find a master work iron sword that gives you +1 to your attack roll (chance to hit) within the first 5 hours of the game (blind play).

I love D:OS2, but magic/epic/legendary items don't feel special at all. And I'm OK with that. Maybe someone will drop a mod and give equipment blue, purple and orange text boxes so you can good when you play this game.

I haven't played the EA in a long while, but when I did there were plenty of magic items.

This is a different game. It doesn't need to be like DoS 3 in every way.
