I would just like to point out to all those freaking out that this isn't really the first game with animal sex. "Arcanum" by Sierra actually had a sheep you could have sex with in a whorehouse many, many years ago, and I'm sure there are more incidents of that.

Not to mention that shapeshifter sex is pretty much old hat in fantasy, I mean it's been going on as long as there have been werewolves pretty much, and shapeshifter sex in different forms is a staple of the whole paranormal romance genre.

That said I do agree it was bad taste to make a big deal about this in promotional material for the game. Had they just remained quiet about it and let people figure it out on their own, it likely would have never been a big deal, because really the whole idea is almost stereotypical and I'd think a bunch of fantasy needs would know that.

I mean cripes when "The Howling 2: Your Sister Is a Werewolf" came out they had bi-sexual werewolf orgies as really the only selling point of one of the most horrendous movies of all time. If they could survive that, along with Sybil Danning flashing her boobs 17 times during the closing credits, I'm pretty sure people can weather this even if I admit this is bizzare, and shows a lack of common sense in whoever is setting up these promotions.

D&D is already a damaged brand despite it's boom, and this is the last thing it needed.

Dragon Age: Origins (by Bioware, the original crators of Baldur's Gate) lets you purchase a "Surprise Me" option at its brothel, which has you wake up naked, surrounded by Nugs (a mix of a pig and a mole) giving a thousand yard stare and being unwilling to meet your gaze.

No one ever batted an eye at this clear joke involving non-consenting, non-sapient animals. Yeah, it's a morally-disturbing scene if you think about it, but everyone understood it was a joke and thus didn't care. Either you don't think about it and say "Hah, wacky," or you do and say "Yuck," and you move on.
