Can't confirm that obviously, but I'd say the possibility is there.
Though if they are in the game, it'll probably be a reflavored Longsword instead of its own weapon category.

Yes, they are usually lighter then a longsword and have an average weight nearing a Arming sword (which were meant for 1 hand) so it is possible to use them 1 handed
DNDically speaking
they are labeled versatile weapons meaning 1 handed and 2 handed
Katanas were 1 handed in baldurs gate and the advanced dnd TT. But I believe they are talking about how in 5e you can 2 hand a weapon that can be used in 1 hand like a longsword can be two handed and go from a 1d8 to a 1d10.
Also, isn't a 2-handed katana just a katana? I thought they were used two handed in reality?
