I haven't seen any evidence as of yet, but I suppose there might be some in the city or something. I imagine it will be modded in eventually.

So far, we haven't seen any depicted, but I'd imagine they exist within the forgotten realms still so I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least a few of them around somewhere.
Can't confirm that obviously, but I'd say the possibility is there.

Katanas already exist in the games files, though not currently accessible without mods. Remains to be seen where / how we can get them.

They're not in official 5e, and aren't necessarily on-brand for the region of the world we're in, but I wouldn't be surprised if they make it into the game in some form.

Their are models found in game but whether or not they are actual weapons or just set pieces that decorate a location.

Though if they are in the game, it'll probably be a reflavored Longsword instead of its own weapon category.

The only thing I wish is that we had some classes or subs that fit the katana theme. In BG1 2 and enhanced i refused to play a kensei my first time without grandmaster katanas even though the only good one was celestial fury. It would feel awkward to play most fighters/barbs/paladins with one. Though I guess a ranger or rogue could kind of fit. The 5e monk kensei makes me want to hurl. And the 5e samurai is just blah.

There's no way they aren't putting Katanas in the game, for sure there has to be a few.

I would imagine this is just a cosmetic thing - a "2-hd katana" (isn't there another name for this weapon?) is either essentially a long sword (versatile) or a greatsword (2-hd, heavy) with a different aesthetic.

The Greatsword variant would be the Odachi, with Longsword being the Katana, Short Sword a Wakizashi or they could use a Kodachi instead. With a Tanto representing the dagger class.

Historically speaking

Yes, they are usually lighter then a longsword and have an average weight nearing a Arming sword (which were meant for 1 hand) so it is possible to use them 1 handed

DNDically speaking

they are labeled versatile weapons meaning 1 handed and 2 handed

Katanas were 1 handed in baldurs gate and the advanced dnd TT. But I believe they are talking about how in 5e you can 2 hand a weapon that can be used in 1 hand like a longsword can be two handed and go from a 1d8 to a 1d10.

The only katana in game at the moment is at the circus in rivington but its a fake

It's not that weird, Katanas were only in one of the two earlier Baldur's Gate games anyway

Also, isn't a 2-handed katana just a katana? I thought they were used two handed in reality?
