Weather you resist that or not is up to you.
It'sa character you create from scratch but that has unique ptions an interactions for being, in simple terms, a psychopath. Probably will tie up with the story later, and I even believe some theories that say it will actually tie up with previous baldur's gate titles. Time will tell about that, but the mechanical part seems to be it has psycho options not usually available.

Could range from, 'I know this is someone else's cake but, its just right here." to 'What if I throw a firecracker into this hole in the ground.' and other darker thoughts but lets not go down that road.
Many people can resist these urges, others struggle with them. The Dark Urge just turns it up to 11 and you get extra options to do some brutal things and it may even pop up during situations where you normally wouldn't even have these dark thoughts. Like if you were petting a rabbit and suddenly you feel your hand twitch.
