Human level 1-3 and then respec on level 4? :)
HAH!
Edit: Even more interesting is when she changes to githyanki the stat block doesn't change. Githyanki start with +2 str / +1 int. The 15 con should've changed to 14 con and 9 int. This points to perhaps you can use the Tasha’s Stat Variant Rule and assign any +2/+1 stats independent of race choice. If this is the case I welcome it. Being stats stunted isn't fun. Tiefling druid lets go!
Then again if the Tasha’s Stat Variant Rule is availble then half elves are still the best race from a pure bonus standpoint because they would get +2/+1/+1 to any stats you'd like...
Welcome to dnd.
Variant human is mechanically equal to default, not disputing that. And equal to other races. Just not an area I'm interested in exploring.
If they include rolling, I guess it'll work out. I roll something comparable to human and then assign the feat to something passive and unnoticeable.
If by build diversity you mean mandatory race selection then yes. Variant human is by far the best race in 5e, objectively. It's not even close.
Maybe they can homebrew vanilla hooman to make them a little stronger?
