Origin Character Classes - can you change them?
In the FAQ it was mentioned that they at least plan on making it possible to change the classes of the origin characters when you recruit them.
But can you choose their class when you pick them at the start of the game as your own character?
Has there been any information revealed about that?

Ty for possible answers.

I'd hope not. Some (most?) of them have their classes tied pretty closely to their characterization. Like sure, maybe Shadowheart could just be a generic follower of Shar, but her story is more powerful if she is more intimately connected with the goddess and priesthood by being a cleric. Wyll kind of HAS to be a warlock, Gale at the very least has to be wiz/sorc/warlock (but even warlock would be a stretch). Lyzel (like many fighters) COULD be another class but pre-made characters tend to work better when they are locked or at least restricted to a narrow range. In DOS2 you COULD make the murder-y elf a non-rogue/sneaky assassin type class but making her a cleric-type class just didn't fit her story/character at all.

I dont think you can respec your companions, only yourself.
if you pick one of the origin characters, I doubt you'd be able to respec since their class is basically who they are as a person, the story wouldnt make any sense if Shadowheart was a Barbarian instead of a Cleric of shar.

There is a way to change your class later on as per stream. Based on that, I'm going to assume that'll also applies to origin characters as well.

Frankly, I also don't mind them being tied to a class but since I'm going to play with friends who would have more of an issue with this than me, I wanted to know before the game is released.

So I'm generally not trying to argue about whether or not it's good or bad, I just want to know what to tell my friends. Because they really want to play Origin Characters but like to customise their classes.

I'm guessing you are thrown back go normal character creation. So whatever choices you have in character creator you have in the respec. So whatever changes you can do to origin characters in character creation you can do in respec. Just a guess

If it's anything like DOS2, then it will likely be possible from the start if you pick to play as them.

With mods all things are possible.

Keeping in mind that we have multiclassing - maybe you can mess with that in regards of origin charachters even if on the start they are locked on certain class.
Miqi Jul 7, 2023 @ 11:47am
you will a 100% not be able to change origin classes except for "The dark urge"
They've a ton of storyline literally tailored to their background, shadowheart as a cleric of a specific god. Wyll as a warlock tied to his Demon patron, Gale literally being a wizard trying to fix an arcane nuke from going off.

multiclassing is the best hope you got.

wouldnt make sense for someone like shadowheart or wyll because of their story
