I think Gale is the most interesting party member in early access
On the outside it looks like he is a character that favors you doing “good” actions but is that just a facade?

If you favor Gale in your play through, he will inform you that he would basically be a selfless character should he can’t keep his “problem” in check, and would more or less give up his own life to save everyone else.

But if you do not favor him and refuse to help him, he would eventually make a deal with the demon, in order to save his own life.

So which is true? On one side he acts like he will be a selfless character that would protect everyone at the cost of his own life should he fail to deal with his “problem”. On the other side, he is willing to make a deal with evil in order to save his own life if we do not help him with his “problem”.

That is like the complete opposite of how he portrayed himself, so was he acting all this time? Can we really trust what Gale says?

That is pretty interesting…

What do you think?

He is definitely not completely selfless like he likes to portray, but at the same time, I don't think he's secretly evil or anything. Even magical WMDs want to live, and as long as he didn't have to like sacrifice a virgin or something to accomplish that, I don't find it unreasonable that he made a deal with a Devil.

Generally the boilerplate devilish deal is "a wish for an eternity fighting the Blood War," which I don't think is inherently an immoral deal to make.

Gale has some VERY disturbing social quirks if you pay attention to him. Note how he always kisses up to you and showers you with praise before asking something of you.

Take note of how he easily lets his emotions go haywire if you peer into him or discover his secrets without him telling you first.

Most disturbing of all, he admits that if he were to meet the love of his life he would want to lock himself and them away somewhere alone. Forever.

The man is a walking example of emotional manipulation who seems to revel in how much control he can assume over a person just by being secretive. His own wizardly power has gotten axed due to a certain someone distancing themselves from him and he uses secrecy and manipulation to cope, is my guess.

In many ways, he is like Astarion. He wants to be powerful and feel validated, but he's nicer to you, at least on the outside. But he's got some baaad stuff on the inside, and not just the magical nuke in his chest.

Overall, Gale strikes me as a generally good person with very deep issues.

I personally dislike Gale. The icing on the cake is that I can't even kill the A hole because 2 in game days later you're forced into a reload as his bomb goes off. I only hope in the full game I can help him disarm it only to chain lightning his punk ass seconds later. I'll even quote Palpatine: "Only now, at the end. Do you understand."

I feel like all the companions have the same basic design. They are sworn to masters before you met them and at some point during the game there will be a test of their loyalty.

A common consensus is that the characters were compressed for EA and that their development will be more involved in release.

I am not say that Gale is "perfectly good", but I have no idea why some people have kind of "conspiracy theory" about Gale, like they already decided that "Gale must be evil", and then suddenly all things Gale did, become somehow "suspicious".
I wonder what an actual "good" person should look like to them?

gale is just a horribly designed as rpg character that's the main problem with him for me so if his good or not doesn't even matter and never comes into the question..

Why does Gale approve of this?

Astarian and Lae'zel are freaking out but Gale loves it.

Edit: what a monster.

The only character I hate more than Gale is Lae'zel.

If I remember correctly, Gale was approving of saving the owlbear kid, not "eating mother".

According to his issue, which he himself describes to you, is a deadly outcome should he fail to maintain it so it MIGHT make sense in that regard him needing to do whatever he may need to in order to keep it in check, but it's entirely possible there's more to it than that as well. He could still be a good person despite these things however.
Or he could be completely lying. Considering we can't get out of the EA areas of the story it's too difficult to tell, but given how he acts in my party through out the adventure, and his different reactions to what you do about saving Halsin and dealing with the golbins/tiefling situation, I'm more willing to believe he's a good individual stuck in a dangerous situation he needs to maintain. It is possible that's not right, but either way I'll see what it amounts to as I travel with him and all my other companions through the adventure and help him as best I can where I can.
