Generally the boilerplate devilish deal is "a wish for an eternity fighting the Blood War," which I don't think is inherently an immoral deal to make.
Take note of how he easily lets his emotions go haywire if you peer into him or discover his secrets without him telling you first.
Most disturbing of all, he admits that if he were to meet the love of his life he would want to lock himself and them away somewhere alone. Forever.
The man is a walking example of emotional manipulation who seems to revel in how much control he can assume over a person just by being secretive. His own wizardly power has gotten axed due to a certain someone distancing themselves from him and he uses secrecy and manipulation to cope, is my guess.
In many ways, he is like Astarion. He wants to be powerful and feel validated, but he's nicer to you, at least on the outside. But he's got some baaad stuff on the inside, and not just the magical nuke in his chest.
Overall, Gale strikes me as a generally good person with very deep issues.
sounds like he just needs a hug!
I wonder what an actual "good" person should look like to them?

Astarian and Lae'zel are freaking out but Gale loves it.
Edit: what a monster.
Or he could be completely lying. Considering we can't get out of the EA areas of the story it's too difficult to tell, but given how he acts in my party through out the adventure, and his different reactions to what you do about saving Halsin and dealing with the golbins/tiefling situation, I'm more willing to believe he's a good individual stuck in a dangerous situation he needs to maintain. It is possible that's not right, but either way I'll see what it amounts to as I travel with him and all my other companions through the adventure and help him as best I can where I can.
