Disappointed in Larian
You had one claim to fame. You promised to bring us dnd as it exists on the tabletop. How do you come so close and not FINISH it. Level cap of 12 is a HARD NO. I now need to find a a mod after you quit on us to FINISH your game. Dnd has a level cap of 20 and every detail of it's game balance is designed around builds that take this into consideration. You are literally giving me half a cheeseburger, 3 french fries, and a thimble of coke at me and calling it a combo meal. I'm disappointed. You knew this was going to be a big deal to some of us that actually play dnd when you decided to do it. I really don't care about anyone that comes in saying I shouldn't complain. I bought this game on day 1 before we could even play it. I bought it on the promise that it would be the complete table top experience. I have been let down. Period.

Level 8-15, as far as I can tell.

Yeah, Rise of Tiamat is part 2, following from Hoard of the Dragon Queen. Starts at 8 and is expected to go to 15.
Most D&D modules had a level range of around 3-4 levels. A series of them, a "campaign", might have around 12-15 levels, but 20 was possible if it was a particularly long run.

Most high level play was custom content.

And e'rybody knows that most D&D games end around level 10 or so.

It's not a true DnD experience unless we can freely travel to...

*checks notes*

... Theros?
But i dont understand one thing, they said, the monk has the subclass "WAY OF THE OPEN HAND" and also specified the presence of the Quivering Palm move( a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good one, you can do a lot of roleplay around it and cool as ♥♥♥♥ in my opinion), now, you learn Quivering Palm at lv 17 in dnd but lv cap is 12 in teh game, how is it possible?

I mean yeah, would have been nice if they went the 'pay homage to what BG is' route instead of the easy money printing route, at least thanks to wotc the game is massive, albeit tad disappointing.

What would be your definition of 'paying homage to what BG is'?

Way I see it - and I'm guessing I'm not alone on that matter - that's exactly what they're doing. It's their or rather Swen's passion project and the company itself never has been going the money first kinda route in the first place, otherwise they wouldn't really involve the community as such for starters.

Now I really wish I had a "hmmm"- emote. :lunar2019deadpanpig:

I played D&D for about 20 years with the same group. Almost all our parties got wiped when chars where in the 12-14 level range.

I did get a cleric to level 22 once, but mainly because eveyrone else in the party was split class and several levels below me.

You are not fighting Bhaal Spawn as the literal God of Murder this time around. Your power gaming fantasies are best reserved for the Summon Planater ability in BG2. :bhaal:

"We also did a lot of work house-ruling this class, re-balancing Monks and giving them more Ki to ensure they feel powerful next to our other classes. So we're introducing brand new actions to play with."

Didn't see Quivering Palm mentioned anywhere though.

I have high hopes for what Larian does with monks.

People dump on 5e monks, but frankly, I've been extremely bored with them across every previous edition, with 5e simply being no different.

I couldn't care less about DnD, I'm here for the Larian touch.

And this is part of the great divide they are trying to manage.

Just want a good rpg game and story that is fun.

Not an easy task to manage since they are also in the shadow of the previous bioware BG games.

Is it August yet? :steamsad:

Baldur’s Gate 3 features a trio of Monastic traditions to choose as your subclass. Monks of the Open Hand excel at close combat, using special unarmed techniques to manipulate the enemies at hand. At mid levels, this subclass can charge their attacks with Psychic, Necrotic or Radiant damage (representing mind, body and soul). At higher levels, we give them Ki Resonating Blast, which infuses punched targets with Ki and can create a chain reaction of explosions across all in-range targets who have also been touched by Ki.

they call it resonating blast , but its quivering palm
maybe a nerfed version, like not infilict 10d10 necrotic or insta death

I, for one, am furious that Larian are only giving us ONE campaign and NO ability to play another one because they had the audacity to focus on JUST one. Larian you promised me a falafel kebab and gave me a piece of lettuce in a rolled up bit of white bread.
