Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3

So let me get this right. We got Tieflings, but no Aasimar and the level cap is 12?
Talk about disappointing. Seriously a max level of twelve!? You telling me I've been hitting halfway to max level in the first act alone? How short is this game exactly?!

In Neverwinter Nights I can reach level twenty, and in DnD online I can reach level twenty. Hell even in BG2 I can reach level 20 and beyond! I think I can actually reach level 20 in Temple of Elemental Evil...

Don't get me started on Aasimar. That should've been a default option if you have tieflings. :Owlcat_sleepless:

Edit: i was wrong about TOEE. I was thinking about the circle of eight mod.

you are complaining about level cap, but its going to take close to 200 hours to complete the game,

most DnD 5e campaigns end around 12-14, some only being levels 1-5. just because we are not seeing level 20 right now dosent mean they are not going to add DLC campaigns to extend that.

Plus who wants to be a level 20 character when you can multiclass and outperform any level 20 class

200h for completionists, yes but not in general for, say, the average player.
completionists who do all side quests and want all achievements not the ones who finish the game which in this day and age is quite rare. Only like 20% of players finish the game.

I heard that 5th edition was made in mind to get back to what made 3.5 great. Is that true?

You heard wrong.
This is one of the hazards of trying to bring tabletop games to the video game medium. Players want to reach max level as fast as possible. Some games will go ahead and cater to that with letting players feel accomplished by reaching the maximum possible level in the system by making tweaks to the leveling system. Some games won't and stick to what one is more likely to find in the tabletop experience.

This one chose to go with the tabletop experience on leveling. Not everyone is going to like it, though. Then again, there'd be people worrying over being able to get to 20 in such a short time for 5e rules if that was possible in a ~70-hour game.

To each their own, but BG3 is what it is, and they have warrant for doing it.

EDIT: As for Aasimar, that's not PHB. That (at its earliest reference) is optional DMG. PHB is guaranteed. Everything else is at Larian's discretion. Tieflings are PHB. The two variants in BG3 are not, but again, that's Larian's discretion.

12th level is quite a high level as it turns out.
Didn't they say they where doing multiclassing different from tabletop though? You can satart MC pretty much at levelups

Kinda an odd perspective snapshot you're sharing here. In the original BG saga, you could eventually hit level 20... after three games. BG1's level cap was around 7, and BG2 wouldn't allow you to get higher than 14-15. It wasn't until ToB that you could reach level 20. And DND Online is an MMO.

You don't think level 12 is high? Have you played DnD?

Point to where I said it was high or low. Tell me.

Well since you asked...

What you're saying here SCREAMS "Oh my God the level is so low!"
I agree with wanting Aasimar and it would be cool to have a campaign to 20 but that's ALOT of work. Given games have gotten shorter and shorter content wise unless there is stuffing to get to level 12 that's a big campaign.

Although I disagree with how many choices this game has to make your story different there is at least 2 relatively different paths that should allow a unique enough second play through which would also be pretty good
level cap is fine for a video game, they dont want us hitting ungodly powers thats fine, most DnD games i've played my characters have never even gotten close to 20 and some of those campaigns lasted a year+ with over 1000 hours playtime.

I aggree about Aasimar though i want to build my Monk/Sorcerer hybrid i modeled after Vegeta and go supersaiyan
lets hope modders add more races, or they do more races as DLC later on
Ahhh the necro on a pointless thread..
