Level 12 is the max?
Is this game like 6 hours or something? Why so low?

For d&d 12 is not low. Many think 5-12 is the sweet spot, where D&D is the most fun.
On the Tabletop it also can be month to reach 12.
It also follows the tiers of play:

This revolving around a single city of the sword coast high tier 2/low tier 3 makes the most sense. Higher level play would require a fundamentally different story with much higher stakes.

Are you familiar with DnD 5e rules and understand what level 12 means?

Game is (on average, if you skip cutscenes and dont do sidequests) around 100 hours according to devs.

This is a DnD game, you don't get absurdly high levels just to pump numbers.

its more than enough, it also open up for a sequel or a big DLC

12 is actually quite a lot by D&D standards.

In the tabletop people mostly play up to level 10 because the game becomes very hard to balance after that. 10 levels can take a year of sessions to reach.

Are you at all familiar with D&D? If you were, you'd know that most campaigns end around level 10. Power growth between levels is significant.

Compare this to level 14, which is where things get incredibly absurd. This is around the time where you begin reaching-quite literally- godhood levels of power.

People exaggerate the "godhood" thing - godhood doesn't even begin to become a consideration in any version of D&D until 21+.

My tabletop group has been playing a D&D campaign for two years. They just hit level 8. It's plenty high enough with 12, leaving room for 12-20 for an expansion.

Fine. "Extremely powerful" then. :P

But the point stands, D&D is an RPG where getting to level 5 is where you start getting some REAL good stuff.
