ANY TIPS FOR CREATING A CHARACTER WISELY?
So as the topic says, does anyone has some universal tips how to start messing with different builds without depending on simple guides that will tell you what skills and attributes you need to create a badass that will eradicate everything?

I've seen maaaany smart players in other topics that were sharing some crazy builds and I was reading that, feeling like a Jon Snow, knowing nothing. :steammocking:

What I need to know is - what should I pay attention to and what mistakes should I avoid.
I don't want you to loose your time on writing some essays for me, just... show me the way, where should I start to understand all the basic mechanics (for example what should I pay attention to if I want to create a mage that will make some decent hit or a healer that will keep my party alive, etc.) and I think I'll be able to do the rest from that point. :steamhappy:

Also, feel free to share your craziest builds that gave you a lot of fun and tell me why they're awesome, I would love to read about them!

They're not crazy builds, its a simple game, the simplest builds are the strongest. Just commit to one and you'll do good.
you need to take advantage of breeding options due to the diversity that the game offers. There so many variations of creatures to consider and the developers had a special team to create various positions.

Look up what mainstat your class has(str/int/dex/wisdom/charisma) and boost that as high as you can, you can get 17 if you pick a race with a stat bonus. Your mainstat will decide your hit chance and damage, its very important.

After that you should get at least 14 constitution(higher if you play melee), then put some stats in dexterity(decides initiative(how fast you act in combat)).

Make sure your character is proficient in any armor / weapon they equip otherwise they are penalized.
Max your primary stat.
Con secondary.
Dex thirdly if you're sticking to medium armor, ignore dex (unless primary) if you're going for Heavy armor.

Try to get proficient in the character creation for Checks (religion, history, acrobatics, etc.) for traits that matches your stat allocations.

Physical attack characters are fairly simply to play as it's mostly reliant on your weapon and a small selection of methods to attack.

Spell casters requires a bit of reading.

You can only concentrate on 1 spell at a time with the tag "concentration"
read your spells.

that's probably the shortest Tl;DR for a game following the ruleset of DnD E5

Your main stat is generaly the 'go to' stat.
Secund this, Dexterity is the most usefull stat if not your primary one. (Not every class need Dex but most do)
Constitution is always good ( More HP, less death)
Try to have even numbers with your stats, odds numbers are not really usefull exept for multiclassing, I don't recommend it if you don't know what you are doing.

Be careful with weapons, always use a weapon you are proficient with or you will miss your hit a lot.

It's pretty simple - max out your main stat (it has a star by it), only use weapons or armor you are proficient in, and if you're a caster choose a variety of offensive, defensive, and utility spells, being careful not to choose too many concentration based spells.

A good thing to remember is that even stats are when bonuses come into play, so a 16 str is +3 to hit and damage with a long sword, as is a 17. You can make a good character simply by starting out with high stats that their abilities commonly use. However at 4th level you'll get access to a feat which can mechanically change how your character works and also a stat by 1, there is a feat that raises a stat by +2 or two by +1, so even if you start with some odd numbered stats 4th level is a GREAT time to even them out.

As for skills, I'd say the higher importance ones are perception, persuasion and stealth. Some races get certain skills automatically and you can pick a background that also gives you skills.

However, there is one incredibly potent way to play the game and that is to actually use consumable items, potions of giant strength last until a long rest and give you a strength of 21 for example. I've seen videos where someone solo'd an encounter of four fifth level characters with one 2nd level character because they used a bunch of buffs, potions and scrolls before the fight.

Or you could just play as a high wisdom druid and go circle of the moon because their physical stats are based on whatever animal you're currently shapeshifted into.

Just play what you like. 5e is designed so everything is basically the same.

Tell me what class or type of character you want to play OP
