LONEWOLF
If someone who is knowledgeable about Baldur's Gate 3 and Divinity 2 could answer, I would appreciate it.

It seems that in Baldur's Gate 3, similar to Divinity 2, there won't be an option to play as a lone wolf. In other words, if we only have one character in the party, they won't provide us with extra armor, damage bonuses, or an additional skill when leveling up. The fact that each character in a multi-character party has only one action point is exhausting for me. It feels like the combat is being wasted.

When playing as a lone wolf, I can use three or even four skills with two characters, allowing me to employ various tactics. I can set up oil, lay traps, and ignite them for high damage.

For example, I had a lizard character with me, and I would summon a golem in one turn, enchant it, and then summon a totem. I could also make the golem use two more skills. Since my first character caused an explosion with fire, I would summon a golem on the burning surface, making it fiery as well. The combo possibilities were endless.

However, with four or five characters, it becomes tiresome to execute all these actions in sequence. Moreover, it's challenging to perceive the combo clearly because the characters move around, and multiple factors come into play. Instead of creating combos with just one or two characters, it seems that you need to mix and match all five characters to create a collective combo.

I want to have peace of mind and not spend too much time searching for separate items or managing each character individually. To avoid that, I prefer playing with two characters. How can I overcome this?

BG3 has DnD 5e rule set there will be no Lonewolf trait/feat.
You can play with just 2 characters but game will be harder.
Don't think it will be impossible but it will be hard.

In DOS:2 Solo lonewolf run as Fane and his faint death was really easy way to play the game actually. Lonewolf was not balanced at all and was too easy.

So look for some really strong class combination or strategy.
In EA stealth is completely broken and you can kill everything on the map with a single character using stealth exploits without even investing into Stealth skill.
Larian does not really balance their games, so soloing BG3 might acually be pretty easy using unbalanced and broken stuff.

So, unlike DOS2, BG3 is based on DnD 5e, which is a turn-based tabletop RPG system. You can potentially do more things per round through Bonus Actions, Reactions, and other ways to juice up your turns, but yeah, generally speaking, this system isn't built to do as much per turn as DOS2 does. I personally like this better, but your mileage may vary. DnD also isn't nearly as combo-oriented as DOS2.

DnD has no real "Lone Wolf" mechanic. Larian discussed potentially having that sort of mechanic in BG3 a while back, but we haven't seen it, and I don't think it's confirmed. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if it shows up in some form.

As for how to overcome this... I mean, DnD-style combat may just not be for you, unfortunately. But I expect some manner of Lone Wolf mechanic will show up, if not in 1.0 than with mods.

Best way? Probably go Shadow Monk and do hit and run tactics or choose Paladin and have a dedicated support character with you who can cast buffs to keep you buffed up or someone who can kill multiple enemies really fast.

One combo I used for a two man party was Devotion Paladin and a Dragonic Sorc. I'd cast buffs on the Paladin and have them draw in enemies towards them while the Sorc was in sneak and out of combat, then have the Paladin jump away to safety while my Sorc threw out Fireballs.

For bosses I had the Sorc use moves that prevent enemies from acting while my Paladin smiited them until they died. This is a long rest heavy team but it worked for me.

That type of play style will probably require an intimate knowledge of the game, and carefully planning for encounters and a lot of save scumming. BG3 is essentially a PC port of D&D 5e and as such is intended to be played with a party. Not saying it's impossible, but it's definitely going to require a bit of homework and patience.

It may be difficult for these four individuals to make arrangements due to the need to solve puzzles and overcome trap-filled rooms. However, just like in Divinity 2, there is usually an easy way for every challenge, a shortcut for every long path, and a simple solution for every trap. Hopefully, there is one in this case as well.
All you need is the ability to roll or choose your stats, which is confirmed to be in at launch!

You're good!

The balancing of BG3 is more forgiving than D:OS2's "fighting higher-level enemies is a death sentence" balance, so you could conceivably survive with less than four party members, However, that requires the player to "git gud," so it's probably not a good idea for someone new to the game.

Personally, I'd just suggest waiting for release and play on Easy Mode; that should probably give you enough leeway to play with half the intended number of characters.
Well there have bin people who have done entire play thrus with all of the characters as far as I know, but it's more a challenge then the quite broken lonewolf skill in DoS2, I doubt lonewolf will exist in BG3 in any form, it's hard to balance and a 2 player team was always more broken and stronger then 4 players.
The bright side is BG3 so far has given a lot of loot, and classes rarely share gear, the best option is to not spec them all down the same stuff you get 4 slots so do 1 clothing, 1 light 1 medium and 1 heavy armor character with different weapons, if this is not sufficient it may not be for you.
Theres a mod that lets you cheat.
give yourself whatever advantages you want.
boom, customized lone wolf.

If it is a challenge that you seek, then you absolutely can try a solo character run or a duo character run.
But much like in DOS2 there will be encounters that are borderline impossible to beat because you will encounter immunities / unfair boss advantanges or terrible RNG.

There are YT videos of people Soloing various boss encounters in the 0.9 Early access Patch. granted in some cases they are over leveled and heavily relying on items that grant very specific buffs.

But if you are a true lone wolf player who knows how to utilize every aspect of the game, then it's absolutely doable.

The easiest would probably be a Rogue with a high sneak modifier as you can fire from out of combat and roll a high enough stealth check to remain out of combat.

But a Light domain cleric could probably also just face tank AOE their way through most encounters

Play with 2 characters on story mode?

I had a lot of fun playing with just Lae'zel and a Gith Wizard. Some fights were a challenge but that was half the fun.

Won't be my first full playthru on release, but definitely gonna try a full run with just 2.
Given how many encounters you can talk your way through, I think a high Dex/Cha build with social skills would be good, and you'll also want stealth and probably some magic as well.

Now that I think about it, what you're looking for is...a Bard!

Bards are probably the best overall solo class because you get so much utility out of them. If you really want to hammer that utility nail home, multiclass as a Ranger too.

Why would Larian give you bonuses for being alone? You're choosing hard mode, then asking for Larian to make it cake.

Does not compute.

I will wait for the addition of the lone wolf perk / mode. Until now I don't want to play.
