There is a dialogue tab that lets you see everything that has been said, and it lets you switch between date and region, but it won't store the dialogue when you exit the game.
Assuming that the body is still there and not burnt/disintegrated, you could always get "Speak with dead" and take him with you - just let him do the talking.
He wants the leaders dead because he has a hero complex and wants to save the tieflings etc. He specifically wants revenge on Spike for taking his eye and getting info for rescuing Mizora. You may have to question him a bit first or go through some long rests to get the scenes that mention this to trigger though.
You're right, he probably didn't bring it up. It's something he keeps secret unless he's with you in one specific scene in the blighted village, where he reveals what his true intentions for investigating the goblin fort are.
