I find many of their class features somewhat useless (Mage Slayer, etc.)
Bounty Hunter, Ranger Knight, and the resistances are good.
Most often I tske Hunter Colossus Slayer as it gives the most consistent damage bonus, but I hear Beastmaster is pretty good now too, as animal companions get a big boost at level five.
If anything, I want more Ranger subclass choices.
Me personally, I'm not a fan, but not because of their combat capabilities - those are real good. My issue is having a non-charisma, non skill monkey character taking one of my very valuable 4 character slots. I'd play Astarion or a Lore Bard in that slot basically every time because of their ability with basically all non combat rolls.
One of my best playthroughs was a drow ranger who used those gloves off the goblins and just played standard Dex archer.
My +attack was through the roof, I did decent damage with hunters mark, a +1 longbow, and 20 dex, but also I was a ranger Bane-disher who debuffed mobs super consistently.
I also enjoyed all the different arrows I had access to, using fire/cold/poison/etc arrows in different situations
Additionally I was so dexy that I didn’t need to bring Astarion.
I’m likely playing Paladin my first playthrough, but ranger would be a close 2nd. The only thing hurting it is that I think I can have a ranger in my party (that Teifling you meet at the toll place by the river). I’ll probably bring her as my ranger and use like Shadowheart and either Wyll or Gale.
Good balance. Pala front liner, Cleric healer, Ranger Dex Archer, and a Caster.
Has the ranger become just a long-distance hitter? I would rather have a paladin for tanking and other classes for DPS. I found one build for the ranger and that is DPS range/ melee.
Scimitars are awesome for Dex build and now for EA I give Astarion the ability to use scimitars and hvy crossbows for level 4 feat as of late.
For full release, I don't think the ranger class will be my first choice for a character. Probably go with Paladin for tanking.
I intend to create a Ranger/Rogue, and I'll either go 3/11 or 5/9, depending upon whether I want that Extra Attack or not.
Snek Attac + Colossus Slayer + Hunter's Mark + Sharpshooter + Skulker = death from the shadows. With Haste and the extra bonus action from Thief, you can even pull off Hail of Thorns without screwing yourself, and still Hide on your turn. Use Spellthief to recharge spell slots for more Hail. Wood Elf + Longstrider + Crusher's Ring + Mobility = catch me if you can.
My fav helm for Astarion. Being able to go invisible for 3 turns is awesome.

Oh, niiice. I must've completely forgotten about that, somehow.
It's the exact kind of look I want for one of the character concepts I've been tinkering with. I gotta get my hands on that.
