this is confusing cause everyone says different..
I know it comes back when you use them for meta magic...
but one guy is saying if i use 2 points to get a spell slot...
then if i want to convert that spell slot back to points, i only get 1 point back of the two.. that means i lose 1 everytime...
so even if i sell the spell slot,, i get BOTH points back that i payed for the spell slot, if i rest?
For a Sorlock (Sorcerer/Warlock) this means you can convert your Warlock spell slots into Sorcery Points at a higher exchange rate. Warlocks also get their spell slots back on a short rest, so you can convert them, short rest, convert them again, then short rest to get them back.
Toss in a Bard with Song of Rest and you can do it one more time.
This is called Coffeelocking.
It's temporary.
Both Sorcery Points and spell slots are a resource you use to either cast spells or to use Metamagic to modify a spell.
When you Long Rest, both Sorc Pts and all spell slots simpky reset to their base values regardless of any conversions or unspent points/slots you had before then.
Basically, you begin each "day" with just thr base values for each. They "reset".
so i buy a slot, i put a skill in it.. use it as fit... when i rest.. it disapears. and i get the points back ?
interesting. dual classing sounds fun. got this game yesterday so very new
You cast a spell with a spell slot
Ie a level 1 Spell requires at least 1 free level 1 spell slot.
You have the Spells either way and you don't loose them.
still confused...
i thought you brought a permanent slot that you can put another skill in and always have in youre arsenal..
so now you mean you use 2 points, to toss another skill you dont have only once?.. and when you rest you get the 2points back?.
or does the 2 points convert into a magic skill you can use "only once" or more?.. untill you rest and then it converts back into points?
as a sourcerer you get 1 Spell per level for the majority of levels. You just learn the spell.
And you additionally get Spell slots according to a table in up to 9 different levels.
You then can use your spell slots to cast any spell, but each spell has a minimum level it has to be cast with.
You don't buy new skills or spells with sorcery points. You only buy More uses for your existing spells or sell uses of your existing spells for sorcery points.
And all that resets on a long rest.
oh..
so i can for example use it to toss fire ball more then once. "if now fireball was only once a day thing"..
now i get it..
It helps to think of spell slots as ammo.
A caster gets 'x' number of spell slots based on their character level, and each spell level gets it's own spell slots (Level 1 spell slots, level 2 spell slots, etc.)
Casting a level 1 spell uses up a level 1 spell slot. Casting a level 2 spell uses up a level 2 spell slot. Casting a level 3 spell uses up a level 3 spell slot. You get all your spell slots (ammo) back every time you Long Rest.
Sorcery points are nominally used to activate Metamagic, which modifies another spell (essentially giving you ways to enhance existing spells at the cost of Sorc Pts), but you can ALSO convert slots into Sorc Pts or Sorc Pts into spell slots.
This would let you, for example, convert all your level 1 spell slots (ammo) into Sorc Pts, and THEN convert those Sorc Pts into a level 3 spell slot (which would allow to cast an additional level 3 spell).
200% get it now.
very sorry for the confusion. when i read "spell slot" i atumaticly thought it was another slot to put a new skill in. so i had more skills lol. but now i understand how it works. <3
