Game crashing after installing mods, even after uninstalling everything.
Hello.

I wanted to install some mods for BG3 and I watched some videos and did what I should do but apparantly I installed unsupprted mods. So I deleted everything but the game was still crashing. I deleted/uninstalled everything that has to dowith Nexus/Mods etc etc and I even uninstalled the game and reinstalled it again but the error message still remains. I even made a new account, but still. I also looked for saved data and something like that, I couldn't find anything.

Please, can someone tell me what I should do?

Assuming you're on windows, check your AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods folder and delete anything in there. After that, go into the PlayerProfiles\Public folder (and other profile folders) and delete the modsettings.lsx

If you used Vortex to install, don't. The system has changed.

When uninstalling the game files that weren't part of the original gamefiles might get left behind. If you didn't manually check and delete the folder they might persist through reinstalling.
Check your Game directory.
There might be a Mods folder there. Also some mods directly install into the Generated and Public folders in your game directory.
Delee those 3 directories and then verify files so if there were any important files in there steam will redownload these.
This is obviously additional to the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods folder.

I did but I couldn`t find anything more. I searched everywhere to be 100 % sure that I really deleted everything. But it's still the same.

I'm also having the exact same problem. I used vortex and followed a video exactly. I'm currently still trying to figure out how to fix my game. It wont work on my laptop but works on my pc tower fine. So it has to be whatever was left on my laptop. I've looked everywhere and deleted the game and reinstalled it many times during this process but I'm still coming up short.

Exactly when is it crashing?

When you deleted everything, did that include ALL the Larian files in AppData?

Did you also turn off Steam Cloud Saves so any old saves are not just reloaded back onto the system?

It is almost a surety that there are some files left floating around somewhere.

Good Luck

Mine is now doing this same after the update. It crashed on launch, so I deleted all the mod data from my bin, mod file, and profile. Now it's crashing on the loading screen when I launch my save. RIP, so close to finishing the damn game. do gutted.

Recently attempted to mod this game but saw that all the mods were buggy so I decided against it after downloading the 2 initial mods that vortex tells you to. I was trying to play with friends but the game detected mods so I closed it and uninstalled everything from vortex and now it crashes, I've gone through local data, deleted everything in the mods folder and the profile one and still crashing. My game saves weren't even touched by mods since I stopped before starting a modded game. I'm so confused now😭

I've literally done every step to fix my crashing, and I still can't startup the game.
I reinstalled the game many times, I deleted all files out of the game folder and the mods folder.

I literally cleared all files and started fresh many times, and started with dx11, and still crashes. It's ridiculous... I have absolutely no idea how to fix this, other than reinstalling my windows...

I don't understand how with a completely fresh reinstall... that the game somehow still crashes...

You most likely did an incomplete uninstall, missing essential mods files.
It will not help either that the information in this thread are somewhat outdated.

This worked for me and thank you so much for doing this
