The missing Feats.
One thing I haven't seen addressed much is the number of missing Feats in the current game.

While I look forward to several things that will change, or be added to, into the final addition, extra Feats is a biggie.

Sure I want extra races (hopefully more than Half-Orc, Variant Human and Dragonborn). I want to play Genasi, Tabaxi, Aasimar.........but that probably isn't happening.

At full release we should see extra available sub classes, adjustable levels of difficulty, proper dice rolling for attributes, chapters 2 and 3, more facial variety at creation and maybe muscular/fat/thin body options............... and much more to look forward to.

However, I also want the missing Feats put in. They can make such a difference when building a character over time. For example, some of the missing feats that ARE in the Players Handbook are Alert, Charger, Crossbow Expert, Elemental Adept, Lucky, Polearm Master, Resilient, Sentinel, War Caster.

I am looking forward to having these options to choose as I level up. Feat choices can really help round out a character as they progress through the game and make them even better in specialising in particular builds, and adding those very nice feats that are missing at this time.

Of course there are specific Racial Feats as well, in Xanathar's Guide to Everything, but that is not the Players Handbook, so it is a whole different ballgame.

I'm a little surprised there were not more Feat choices added already, but perhaps some feats are not easy to get working properly within a computer game and this is, after all, early access. I still think all feats listed are possible to implement, but some are easier to code than others.

Feats are describes in PHB. And ”promise” is PHB content. I see feats coming same certainty as half-orc, dragonborn, monk etc.

I do love how Polearm Master makes Quarterstaff such a good weapon
1st level Variant Human Fighter with dueling fighting style and the feat so you get 1d6+5/1d4+5 and still have AC18 from chainmail and shield.

Caveat:
“The full release of BG3 will include all of the classes and races, and most of the spells and skills contained in the D&D Player’s Handbook, as well as Act 2 & Act 3 of the story of Baldur’s Gate 3.”

Feats aren't mentioned there, so no guarantees on all the feats in the PHB. Would definitely expect more though.

Implementing everything in the PHB would be an incredible amount of work. Obviously, I want as many feats as possible, but I also want the game in this decade.

We need to curb our natural excitement and expectations. It's a video game based on TT- not a TT replacement.

From community update 8: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1086940/view/2868188053546850136
"Classes evolve as you level up and each class presents plenty of opportunities for customisation. Once you hit level 4 for instance, you’ll get to select from a wide range of feats. Feats represent talents or an area of expertise that give characters special capabilities. They embody training, experience, and abilities beyond what your base class provides"

I read that as so that Larian considers 5e feats as normal class progression (phb) stuff and they are in.

And loong time ago in AMA they said that not all (or any, can’t remember) might not make it to EA.

Among other things i was planning to play as a life cleric, standing on at a front and supporting my party and bashing heads with mace. I need that damn War Caster.
I want Skulker and Sharpshooter.

It's certainly strange to leave out so many customization options for a two year plus Early Access. But, that's what they've done. I don't think it was the best idea, even if they eventually do add a host of options at release.

Word of mouth travels fast about the dearth of customization options, even relative to the 5e Player's Handbook, a book that was released almost a decade ago.

saving themselves for a full release. surprise and all that

Oh man I do not know how difficult it would be to implement rest of the races and feats... But I do hope, that if they do that, they implement their RP properly. Playing as an aasimar would definitely be exciting.
I don't care very much for body or combat mechanics though... I think that it has a very good complexity right now. Maybe some fan favorite stuff like sharpshooter etc.

In short, very. Subraces aren't particularly hard, but full races are a nightmare if you want them in properly and not pretending to be something else; being an Aasimar but all your dialogue is for a Tiefling.
keep in mind whatever feats you dont get will be added by modders.
theres already a working mod that adds many feats including some newer ones like fey touched, shadow touched ,etc.
