Armor system?
Greetings. There is no silly physical/magical armor system from Divinity Original Sin 2 here, right?

Just some good old D&D, party RPGs system with chances and resistances, hits and misses or dmg reduction?

That was the biggest flaw for me in DOS2 compared to DOS1 and other games, where you had resistances and chances for status effects, instead in DOS2 it was so bad and ruined that you couldn't apply any effect and deal health dmg before u break that type of armor bar, so it was also wiser to just make a party of 1 type dmg dealers.

No physical/magical here. 5E DND.
yeah thank satan for not including dos2 armor system. It's widely known for being a failure. BG3 is mostly DnD 5e so thank satan for that
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
BG3 is about 85% D&D 5e with a sprinkling of homebrew.
actually ive played some games where you dont deal damage until the armor is broken and i kinda like that idea.

i was thinking about this last week, i think the combat in dnd 5e is really bad. but thinking up a solution, idk. i dont know if you can ever find a perfect fix to combat. but i think everyone who played table top dnd 5e can agree that combat is slow, and ultimately boring, when you're down to "I swing my sword" "Ok, rolle to hit." "nice, roll damage" "Ok next turn"
its boring when thats all that happens for 5 turns. when i'm DM I try to make fights more cinematic but theres no rules for that, you just make it up (I like quick time events and fights with mechanics, but not every single fight has this. If you just encounter 5 bandits in the woods it just becomes a slug fest, which isnt all that fun)

This is why I think that battle master fighter skills should be acquired by everyone, to give you more options on your turn.

But. anyway. yeah. i think people dont complain much about 5e combat because we dont know what else to do, but it is slow and boring in normal skirmishes.

Yeah some old games have armor pickups that spawn, i think it was doom. In other games it's same concept but it's called shield. But the problem with this system in Dos2 is that only physical damage removes armor. So i had to make my wizard a... can't remember what school of magic was called, but the one that does physical damage, necromancer maybe, blood rain and so on.

Many people love party based RPGs and D&D exactly for that being 1 of the features, so I disagree here. Pillars of Eternity 1, 2, Divinity 1 (not 2), Pathfinder Wraith of Righeoussmth and all the other games are pretty fine and simple examples. They all use dice system for attacks and saving throws, just some do it non-turn based mod.

I like Dice side of Baldur's Gate 3, just didn't know about armor system for sure so checked.

Yeah, that armor system and overuse of surfaces killed DOS2 for me.
