Most in-game launchers, Stellaris for example, close after the game is launched. Not sure the reasoning BG3 needs to have theirs running?
I believe because they're collecting in-game data to improve the game and it most likely goes through the launcher.
Does it? I typically hit play, wait a few seconds so the game starts loading, close the launcher and then the game loads up. The launcher doesn't stay open while i play. But i agree they could make the process easier by automatically closing the launcher after hitting play.
Every game that ever had a good and sustainable mod user community has done things their own way and one of the first things modders will do is create their own mod manager. It is likely that modders are one of the main reasons why baldurs gate as a series got recognized enough for BG3 to be developed today, and none of the baldurs gate games were made with the expectation that thousands of people through 20+ years would be tweaking it and changing the game.
