Order of characters in party window
Does anyone know a way to fix the order of your party members in the party view?

When outside of the party view, the characters along the left of my screen are always selectable by F1, F2, F3 and F4 in order from top to bottom even after moving characters around. However, when I press Tab to go into the party view with all 4 character sheets side by side they appear in a different order that almost never matches what I have them in outside of it. I don't even know how that order is determined since it seems to randomly change sometimes. Worse still, selecting characters via F1, F2, F3 and F4 works from left to right based on the order inside of the party view and regardless of their position outside of the party list. It's so disorienting, for example, having to switch between pressing F1 for my main character on the map but F4 for my main character in the party window.

Ideally, I'd just like them to always show up in order from left to right in the same order they appear from top to bottom. The next most ideal solution would be the ability to manually change the order of character sheets in the party view so that I can make them match if it can't automatically be done. Barring either of those solutions, however, my last ditch solution would be to be able to set it so that I always use the top to bottom order for hotkeys even if that's the not order they're displayed from left to right in the party view. E.g. I always have my player character set to the top position (F1) outside of the party view and I still want to be able to use F! to select his character sheet in party view even if he's not the farthest left character inside the party view.

It's a losing battle since party order keeps being re-arranged anyway, every time you chain-and-unchain the characters.

Even putting aside my personal desire to see the entire chain-system (aka "toilet chain controls") thrashed once and for all in favor of more traditional "drag and select", the game is in dire need of some formation control, for a start.

One where you can decide where everyone is positioned relatively to the party when you move the entire group and STAYS there unless instructed otherwise, no matter how many times you separate the link or re-establish it.

Also,
Does reordering your party on the left hand side of the screen change the formation they stand in?

Been trying to figure that one out

Yeah, I mean it's not consistent. Just another Larian 'quirk'.

Is it a quirk, more specifically, with the game engine Larian uses?

I think UI functionality is just something they don't prioritize compared to, say, writing and cinematics.

We got them to make multiple updates to the UI so far (it's in a much better state than it was at launch), but they haven't altered the "toilet chain" system, so who can tell how much more work they'll do on it or not?

Inventory also needs a lot of work too.

I also just noticed that the "Send to..." order of characters in the right-click menu of an item changes based on whether you're doing it from the main gameplay window or from within the party view.

I just want party order to be consistent across all systems.

I will say that the UI is vastly improved over when I first played early access back in the first week it was available. Hopefully more quality of life changes like this continues to get added to those already good changes.

To fix the order of the characters in the party view you have to go to camp then tell them all to stay there and get them back in the party in the desired order.

It's a 6 month old thread but...

Not true, (as of today at least) you can drag the portraits to reorder them, just it's very buggy. Seems like you have to first drag the portrait of the character you want to move to the top of the list and a gray square will appear under the portrait indicating it will be moved. Then, without letting go of it, you can drag it to the position you want, (the gray square underneath the portrait will move and when you let go, the portraits will be reordered).

Once the portraits are reordered however, the characters won't change their in-game positions in the party formation until you toggle group mode off and then back on.

Hope this helps anyone who stumbles across this.

Also, in the future I'd avoid replying to old threads since the game will likely have changed since.

They're specifically talking about rearranging the party order in the Party View menu (when you press Tab). Rearranging them in the party order element on the left side of the screen doesn't rearrange them in that menu. You have to go to camp and redeploy your companions to do it.

!!!!!!!!!!! FOR ANYONE HAVING THIS ISSUE !!!!!!!!!!!

If it's already been said in this post, sorry.

If you're having trouble reorganizing your party view character positions.
Just order them from top to bottom (Left to right in party view) on the left of your screen, then press F5, wait for quicksave to finish and then press F8.
The party view should now be reorganized to your heart's content.

For anyone who the quicksave/load didn't work for. I have Wyll in my party and been having this problem for a long while. I dismissed his familiar and my party view windows instantly snapped into the proper order to match my left side order.
