Fly
Is there something I'm missing? Fly only allows you to move to another surface in BG3? No way to stay afloat, flying in the air, casting spells from above? If not, that's very disappointing. If anyone has played Solasta, they've implemented the fly spell very well, among other mechanics.

They're eventually going to need to implement Levitate as well (for the Warlock Invocation as well as the Wizard spell), so I imagine when they do we can ask them to combine the effects for the Fly spell.

That makes sense, hopefully that's the case.

I doubt the Fly or Levitate spell will do what you are thinking OP.
I say this because this isn't a 3D world, nor is it an MMO, so the whole flying around like they do on MMO mounts won't happen as they would have to implement much more X/Y/Z scaling which would, for one, make the game even more massive, and two, since they have never done this is in their previous games, it stands to reason they would not start now without some major announcement, as they are still confined to the capabilities and limitations, of their own engine. So point to point is about the best we are going to get, it seems.

fly is broken op anyway...:) good riddance i say.

Neveer understood the obsession with ability to fly in games or movies you got to keep Character power curve on the same level. THe second you let someone fly things get ridiculous.

The only thing you're wrong about is that this IS a 3D world!

As implemented, Fly sucks, just use the 1st level non-concentration Jump spell. The difference, as far as distance of movement allowed, is meager at best. Even low strength characters in BG3 can jump absurdly far with the spell.

Come on, Fly, little mage.

My mage with 69 Magic Missile:
My Rogue with 69 Dex:
My Fighter with Longbow:

run little rat, run.

In terms of lvl 3 spells, fly seems unremarkable compared to the other devastating things you can do with a lvl 3 spell slot.

Haven't tested fly at all in EA so I can't comment, but I know Solasta did a pretty decent job with the fly spell in their game. If Larian can implement it similar to that by the time full release happens I imagine the spell will be perfectly fine.
With that said though, I only care about fly if I have no other way to reach an objective/chest, so honestly I care little about the spell.

While I do kinda agree with that sentiment, I think if Larian isn't going to implement the ability for fly to allow you to stay in the air then they should remove the concentration requirement. As is now, it's essentially just a double speed movement and buffed version of long jump spell.

In future it might be the only way to get to 'thingies'. So it could be made as obligatory spell for exploring. Or not.

This was kind my thought. I got Fly with my Wild Mage Sorcerer who was only able to receive 1 level 3 spell. Seemed like a waste and kind of ruined my playthrough because there's no way to go back and change or prepare a different spell since it is max level and Sorcerers can't prepare spells.
