Do I have to slay Halsin too?

I “accidentally” slayed most of the druids, and “borrowed” their idol to feed Gale…

However, I fear the wrath of Halsin should he find out what happened, do I need to slay him too to save myself?

Not only did you 'accidentally' slay most of the druids, and most likely, most of the Tieflings, I can only surmise you did one of my test runs.

Did Halsin also find your camp and challenge you?
He came at me, as a Solo Drow Ranger, and I put him down accordingly.
He cheated, by the way, in that prior patch fight. Bringing out a bear companion, while fighting me as a brown bear himself. I killed them both, but it was a harrowing fight. I can do nothing but give him respect on his prowess. He fought, and died well, and with respect.

I should caveat that I sided with the Minthara in that fight.

If you steal the idol undetected the Druids will attempt to kill the Tieflings( and you), if nobody found out who stole the Idol Halsin will still be cool and join the camp.

WELL....
That didn't happen in my test play.

I killed all the grove combatants, and Halsin found my camp and challenged me, to his own demise. I should say this was a solo fight, and a solo game supporting Minthara.

It means, you don't have to kill him, you get to kill him. Have to has a negative connotation, but get to is much more positive.

I don't know if you can actually do that now.
I know they made attacking the idol from afar do nothing now, as I used to go into sneak mode and shoot my light crossbow at it from atop the elevator to rile up the entire Grove to start the Druid vs. Tiefling fighting, but even that is blocked now.

Honestly, i'm unsure, I think there was but it has been awhile since I did it.

Still trying to figure out why you "accidentally" killed all the druids. If BG3 faithfully follows in its predecessors' footsteps, then not everything moving should be targeted and some of these factions could turn out to be good allies moving forward. But that remains to be seen.
